and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

OK first of all I am completely obsessed with Game of Thrones and this incredible book sounds like a YA version of Game of Thrones!!! Love it! So I immediately added it to my "The Wait Is Killing Me" list on Goodreads!!! I also have a weakness for gorgeous book covers and this book...this cover....is seriously awesome!!!!

Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1)Hardcover, 432 pages
Expected publication: October 14th 2014 by Balzer + Bray

A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.
Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.
So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

By SJ Pajonas

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age category: Adult
Release Date: April 25, 2014

Blurb:After the best first date ever, Lee thought Laura was funny, intelligent, and impulsive; a whirlwind of bright laughter and happiness. Laura loved Lee 's sweet smile and the way he expertly filled in every awkward pause. He held her hand and then pulled her in for the most perfect kiss she has had in years. What could possibly be wrong? Just the 7000 miles that separates them the next day.
Even though Lee has gone home to Seoul, Laura can't stop thinking about him. What starts as an innocent text thanking him for their dinner date become= s something much more: someone either of them can't live without. But Laura 's got a live-in mother going through a midlife crisis, and Lee's stressful traveling schedule means they'll be apart for some time. Life, family, and a complicated past also get in the way, and they're both going to need actual face time to figure it out.
Told from both Lee and Laura's point of view, FACE TIME is a funny, romantic, modern-day story about two people who connect across the world.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

I have a friend, Sharon, who is in the military, as is her husband. When her husband went on deployment in the Middle East, they kept in touch via FaceTime. She would often post screenshots of their chats to Twitter and Facebook, and it was great to see the two of them continuing their daily relationship over an internet connection. I thought, “What would it be like to FaceTime date someone? To have a long-distance relationship online?” I know tons of people do this, but I wanted to explore a brand-new relationship, one that starts in person but then continues long-distance. And then the plot was born!

Who is your favorite character in the book?

I think Lee is my favorite character. He’s not an alpha male. He’s a good guy, smart, doing well for himself, who’s had bad luck meeting women because he’s always on the road. He has trouble making decisions and so was saddled with a really awful girlfriend for a few years. But he meets Laura, and he blossoms. He opens up. He takes some chances. He becomes a whole person finally. I love watching his transformation.

Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel idea. Originally, I was going to use Skype as my method of chatting, and then I wondered what phones or technology would be available overseas, and I got frustrated because getting those technology details right is important to me. I hate when they’re glossed over in novels. So I made them both have iPhones and then “Face Time” just made sense. As one word, FaceTime is an app that a lot of people are familiar with, and it comes from the phrase “face time” which is conversing with other people face-to-face. It stuck immediately.

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I’m most proud of the scene where Laura finally confesses about her past to Lee. There’s so much tension and fear in that scene, it was hard to pin down. Originally, I wrote it from her perspective, so we saw all of her pain and anguish and heard her thoughts. But I rewrote it from Lee’s perspective in a later draft so we could see his surprise and feel the panic he has over watching someone he’s in love with beat herself up over past mistakes. It worked better from his point of view. I’m glad I changed it.

Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

I don’t have to go back super far for this because it’s something I tell other writers everyday. Write the way you want to, not the way others think you should write. I had years of college and time after that when people told me I couldn’t write a novel or a screenplay without writing an outline first. I hate outlining with a fiery burning passion. So I would get an idea for a book, sit down to write the outline, and give up. Then three years ago, a friend told me to just sit down and write. Forget the outline. Open the computer and start typing. It turns out I’m a pantster. I write by the seat of my pants and then I revise, A LOT. I had to do what works for me. Don’t let anyone tell you you have to write a certain way.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

It’s so hard to say what I like most because I really love the whole thing! Carrie Butler from Forward Authority did an amazing job on it. I asked for the main concept of a woman looking at a hot Korean guy (it took me ages to find that guy and I think I’m in love) on her tablet, but Carrie came up with the top theme of the two cities connected with a heart. Okay, I think that’s my favorite part. It is super kawaii and I adore it. I’ve used it online in several places. Carrie really knocked it out of the ballpark with that.

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2014?

The book I was most looking forward to was the third book in Jodi Meadows’ INCARNATE trilogy, but now that’s out, and I’ve read it, and I don’t know what to look forward to next! A lot of my favorite series have wrapped up. But I have plenty of new books on my Kindle to read, so perhaps if I get to them, I’ll have other books to look forward to :)

What was your favorite book in 2013?

It would have to be CHAMPION by Marie Lu, the last book in her Legend series. It was a very fulfilling end to a great trilogy. It was well-written, imaginative, and the ending was just perfect. I was super pleased, and I recommend the whole series to everyone I can.

What’s up next for you?

I have a jam packed year ahead of me! Right now, while FACE TIME is making its way out to the world, I’m working on Book 3 of my Nogiku Series. I love this series so much. If you love YA dystopian novels but always wanted to see them with more mature characters, then check out REMOVED, the first book in the Nogiku Series. I have four books planned for that series. Then this summer I have a New Adult friendship novel idea I want to write. I have research to do for the second book in the Love in the Digital Age series (the book after FACE TIME), and then I have a novella I’m planning for late year that ties into my Nogiku Series. Busy!

Is there anything that you would like to add?

Thanks for hosting me on your blog today! I encourage people to read what they love and then please leave reviews online so others can find books they’ll love. Reviews are the best way for a book to reach the right readers!

Tasty Virtual Book Tour, Spotlight, & Giveaway: The Widow's Walk (Robert Barclay)

Displaying Banner.jpg

The Widow's Walk: A Novel

In the spirit of The Notebook and The Time Traveller's Wife comes Robert Barclay's haunting and romantic novel of passion, destiny, loss and an eternal love that will bring two people together across time.
His name was Garrett Richmond and he had always wanted to live by the ocean. So when the opportunity to buy-and renovate-the old home known as Seaside arrived, he leapt at the chance. Never mind that his friends and family thought he was crazy, he knew he could return this lonely mansion, worn by time, wind, and neglect, to its former beauty. But Seaside was more than just a project; it was spot that had called to him his entire life.
And then one night he saw her.
Her name is Constance Elizabeth Canfield and she tells him Seaside has been her home for over 150 years. But Constance is no ghost; rather, she claims that she has been somehow magically trapped between this life and the next. At first, Garrett can't believe her crazy story-the woman had to be lying! And yet, there was something about Constance that was from another time...
Soon this mysterious woman, and flesh and blood man share a closeness they cannot deny. But just as their love begins to bloom, Constance's presence starts mysteriously fading away, soon to be gone forever. Is their love doomed-or is it strong enough to transcend time, and even death itself?

After graduating from Colgate University with a B.A. in Economics and a minor Art History, Robert J. Barclay enjoyed a successful career in business, and served as chairman of his industry-related consulting group. After selling his business and moving from upstate New York to Florida (and with some rather successful prodding by his wife), he was able to finally devote his full attention to something he had always wanted to do: write a book. Rob lives in sunny south Florida. When he isn’t writing, he enjoys weightlifting, Shotokan Karate, and going to the beach to do absolutely nothing.

EgmontUSA Blog Tour & Giveaway: Burn Out (Kristi Helvig)

Burn OutHardback, 272 pages
Published April 8th 2014 by EgmontUSA
Genres: Action & Adventure,  Science Fiction, Survival Stories,Young Adult
Author: Kristi Helvig

A futuristic blend of Beth Revis's Across the Universe and Lenore Appelhans's Level 2, Burn Out will satisfy the growing desire for science fiction with a thrilling story of survival, intrigue, and adventure.

Most people want to save the world; seventeen-year-old Tora Reynolds just wants to get the hell off of it. One of the last survivors in Earth's final years, Tora yearns to escape the wasteland her planet has become after the sun turns "red giant," but discovers her fellow survivors are even more deadly than the hostile environment.
Holed up in an underground shelter, Tora is alone--her brilliant scientist father murdered, her mother and sister burned to death. She dreams of living on a planet with oceans, plants, and animals. Unfortunately, the oceans dried out ages ago, the only plants are giant cacti with deadly spines, and her pet, Trigger, is a gun--one of the bio-energetic weapons her father created for the government before his conscience kicked in.

When family friend, Markus, arrives with mercenaries to take the weapons by force, Tora's fury turns to fear when government ships descend in an attempt to kill them all. She forges an unlikely alliance with Markus and his rag-tag group of raiders, including a smart but quiet soldier named James.

She is shocked when James accidentally fires one of her father's bio-weapons--weapons designed to work only for her. She'd felt a strange pull to James from the start, but the odds of someone sharing her energy vibration are statistically miniscule. Tora must quickly figure out who she can trust, as she must choose between saving herself by giving up the guns or honoring her father's request to save humanity from the most lethal weapons in existence.

Burn Out was a very intense, fast-paced book. I had seen several people on Goodreads commenting about this book so I was extremely excited to receive an ARC and get the opportunity to review it!

From the first chapter you immediately know that you are going to be reading an intense, survival story. I am a huge fan of survival stories and Burn Out has the perfect blend of Sci-Fi and Survival to make it an awesome book!

The main character, Tora, has been left on Earth which is now a deserted planet with only a few survivors. The sun has erupted and now Earth is uninhabitable and unimaginably hot. The air is basically poison and Tora only survives because her father, a bio engineer, foresaw this happening and built an underground bunker with solar powered everything in order to survive the heat. Her father had been murdered and her mother and sister burned to death while trying to go outside. Her father was a genius and worked for the government building weapons so Tora lives in the bunker and protects her fathers weapons.

"Sweat drenched my body within seconds as the intense heat enveloped me. Some early survivors had said this was what hell was like. They were the same ones who claimed the asteroid incident was God's will. Though they preached with righteous indignation about mankind being punished for their wicked ways, they ended up dying just like everyone else. Guess nothing brought out evangelism faster than disaster, but they didn't get that the real hell was Earth."

Tora is shocked when she senses the arrival of another human. The visitor is an old friend, Markus, who knew her father and knew that he created weapons for the government. He also knew about the bunker and the location of the weapons but did not realize that he would be faced with Tora when he comes to collect the weapons.

Tora is surprised again when she realizes Marcus has brought a crew of raiders with him to help him get the weapons. The weapons are technologically advanced and can only be activated by Tora so the raiders and Tora come up with an alliance that they both agree with.

Little does Tora know but this is just the beginning of an intense fight for survival. Tora will face betrayal, distrust, and lies throughout her journey with the raiders yet she will also find allies and friends in unlikely places.  She will also find out truths about her past that she never even considered.

Burn Out is full of drama, romance, survival and so many twists and turns. I loved the Sci-Fi aspect and the author writes the story in such a way that it is truly believable that this could occur. I just absolutely loved it.  The cliff-hanger at the end has be itching for the sequel!!!

Thank you so much to Egmont USA for offering an awesome giveaway for the tour!!!

Kismet Book Touring Blog Tour, Guest Post, & Giveaway: Lamb To The Slaughter (Karen Ann Hopkins)

Some Amish communities aren't so cozy.
Lamb to the Slaughter is a story about the intertwining lives of three unlikely people in an Indiana Amish Community and the devastating results when a rebellious teenage girl is found shot to death in a corn field during the harvest.
Serenity Adams is the newly elected young sheriff in the country town of Blood Rock and besides dealing with the threatening behavior of her predecessor, she now has a dead Amish girl on her plate. At first glance, the case seems obvious. The poor girl was probably accidently shot during hunting season, but when the elders of the Amish community and even the girl’s parents react with uncaring subdued behavior, Serenity becomes suspicious. As she delves deeper into the secretive community that she grew up beside, she discovers a gruesome crime from the past that may very well be related to the Amish girl’s shooting.
Serenity enlists the help of the handsome bad-boy building contractor, Daniel Bachman, who left the Amish when he was nineteen and has his own dark reasons to help the spunky sheriff solve the crime that the family and friends who shunned him are trying desperately to cover up. Serenity’s persistence leads her to a stunning discovery that not only threatens to destroy her blossoming romance with Daniel, but may even take her life in the end.
*Lamb to the Slaughter is book one of Serenity’s Plain Secrets.

For a limited time, Lamb to the Slaughter is available for $2.99 from Amazon and Barnes & Noble so get your copy now!

A native of New York State, Karen Ann Hopkins now lives with her family on a farm in northern Kentucky, where her neighbors in all directions are members of a strict Amish community. Her unique perspective became the inspiration for the story of star-crossed lovers Rose and Noah. When she’s not homeschooling her kids, giving riding lessons or tending to a menagerie of horses, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats, she is dreaming up her next romantic novel.

Curling Up With a Good Book, April 25th

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

Lamb to the Slaughter is an Amish murder mystery that I began writing over a year ago after my agent asked me if I could create such a thing on demand. I became intrigued with the idea, especially since I had personally witnessed some strange and almost creepy goings-on in the Amish community where I lived. I really wanted to delve deeper into the darker side of being Amish, especially in relation to my personal passion, the lives of the teenagers and some of the harsh realities they’re faced with.

Creating a murder mystery was very different than writing the Young Adult contemporary romances that I was used to. For one thing, I had to be meticulous in planning the plot lines and I actually wrote a pretty detailed draft of the Lamb before I ever began writing it. With my previous books, I relied much more on a stream of conscious type writing, allowing some of the plots to develop as I went along. I didn’t have that luxury with a mystery. Mystery readers want the intrigue of a real mystery that keeps them guessing throughout the entire book. In contrast, a straight forward romance is a lot of fun to write, at least for me. It’s more simplistic in nature, that’s for sure.

But even though I was writing a mystery this time, I still wanted to spice it up with some good old fashioned romance and I must say, Lamb has its fair share of love, almost love and love lost. At the heart of the story is Naomi. She’s a pretty young Amish woman with a rebellious spirit. She’s also in love with two boys. One is her handsome and upstanding Amish beau, Eli. The other is Will, an English (non-Amish) teen, who captivates her with his fun and easy going manner. Of course this situation doesn’t end well.

The other romance in Lamb, and a delicious one to write, was between Serenity, the tough-as-nails Sheriff of Blood Rock and the gorgeous building contractor, Daniel Bachman, who used to be Amish and joins her on the murder investigation. Serenity and Daniel have each had their fair share of failed relationships and even though the chemistry between them is undeniable, they’re both stubborn creatures and incredibly intimidated by their growing closeness. There’s a lot of sexual tension between these two, an ingredient that I think makes for a very interesting side story. And as more books develop in this series, I’m sure readers will look forward to seeing whether they end up as a lasting couple.

I was originally inspired to begin writing Amish fiction after moving into the middle of an Amish community in northern Kentucky about six years ago. The idea of Rose and Noah’s star-crossed love affair in Temptation sprouted in my mind from watching the interactions between the Amish and non-Amish teens at my horse farm. Because of my personal experiential knowledge, observations, interactions, and discussions with both the teenagers and adults in my neighborhood, I’ve been able to infuse into my books a reality and grittiness that some other Amish novels don’t possess, making them very unique.

Thank you so much for having me at Curling Up With a Good Book today! I love to hear from readers and answer any of their questions (especially the Amish related ones)! Please contact me on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads or visit me on my website at, www.karenannhopkins.com. I also have a special giveaway going on right now that I’d like to share with you. If you purchase Lamb to the Slaughter on either Kindle or Nook, you can be entered in a giveaway for a three book autographed set of the Temptation series. It includes copies of Temptation, Belonging and Forever! All you have to do is personally contact me on FB, Twitter, Goodreads or my website and let me know that you’ve purchased Lamb and I’ll get you entered. The drawing will be held on May 30th in conjunction with blog tour ending. This is a separate giveaway from the Rafflecopter above.

 Happy reading!

Karen Ann Hopkins

I have been loving me some Amish young love!!! This book was more from the "Englishmen" point of view but still just has good! There is a new sheriff in town and it is a woman!! Serenity returns to her hometown to serve the people of her county as the sheriff. Serenity takes her job very seriously and will not put up with the "good old boy" way of handling crime. One of the first things Serenity has to investigate is the death of a young Amish girl. It looks like a hunting accident but Serenity knows there is more to the story...and WOW what a story it is!!!! Serenity learns that the young Amish girl had quite the love life and it involved her nephew, Will. This book had it all!! Murder, mystery, forbidden romance and left you needing to read the next book in the series ASAP!! Loved this book! I give it 4.5 stars!
