HarperCollins Blog Tour, Interview, & Giveaway: Once and For All (Cheryl Etchison)

27246479Hardback, 384 pages
Expected Publication: May 24th 2016

Publisher:  Avon Impulse

From debut author Cheryl Etchison comes the first in a military romance series about the men of the 75th Ranger Regiment’s 1st Battalion.
Rule #1: Military and matrimony don't mix
But if there's one person Staff Sergeant Danny MacGregor would break all his rules for, it's Bree-his first friend, first love, first everything. Maybe he likes playing the hero. Maybe he's trying to ease ten years of guilt. Either way, he'll do whatever he can to help her.
Wish #1: A little bit of normal
Bree Dunbar has battled cancer, twice. What she wants most is a fresh start in a new place where people aren't constantly treating her like she's sick.
By some miracle her wish is granted, but it comes with one major string attached- the man who broke her heart ten years before.
The rules for this marriage of convenience are simple: when she's ready to stand on her own two feet, she'll walk away and he'll let her go. But if there's one thing the military has taught Danny, it's that things don't always go according to plan…

Where to buy ONCE AND FOR ALL

Cheryl Etchison
Cheryl Etchison graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in journalism and news communications and has worked as a newspaper reporter, marketing coordinator and in public relations for a MLB and NHL team. Currently, she lives in Austin, Texas and is a stay at home mom to three girls. ONCE AND FOR ALL is her first novel.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

I’m a huge sports fan so I remember how Pat Tillman turned down a NFL contract to join the US Army after 9/11. More specifically, I remember that he along with his brother joined the Rangers. I knew of SEALs and Special Forces, but not much more than that so I started digging. The more I researched the 75th Ranger Regiment, the more interested I became.

Who is your favorite character in the book?

That’s like asking me to pick a favorite child! It can’t be done. Well, that’s not completely true. I should say it depends on the day. I absolutely adore Danny and Bree’s fathers, Mac and Pete, because they remind me of my father and his friends. But in this book, Marie was definitely the most fun to write.

Which came first, the title or the novel?

Definitely the novel. How I feel about titles is the same way I feel about headlines from my news reporting days. I’d just turn a story in with “insert title here” at the top. But after my friend assured me I wouldn’t be able to get an agent or sell a book with “Insert Title Here”, I sat down and brainstormed my little heart out. Okay, I scrolled through Foo Fighters lyrics, but it worked.

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I’d have to say the wig scene because I think it really shows the deep connection between Danny and Bree despite spending ten years apart.

Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?

I’ve learned to ignore what I consider to be arbitrary rules about writing. “You must write every day.” Nope. “You must always show and never tell.” Nope. “The scene should be written from the point of view of the character that has the most to lose.” Honestly, I don’t even know what that means. I lie. I do know what it means, but I think it’s a terrible generalization because every character, every scene is different and what works best for one book might not work so well for yours.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

Everything! Amanda Bergeron at Avon suggested the American Valor series have covers with a movie poster feel to them and the art department knocked it out of the park.

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2016?

Rachel Gibson’s “Just Kiss Me” which releases on my birthday. It’s been two years since her last full length novel and I cannot wait.

What was your favorite book in 2015?

“When a Scot Ties the Knot” by Tessa Dare.

What’s up next for you?

Book two of the American Valor series, “Here and Now” releases July 26th, with book three following early 2017 so I’ll be busy with the men of the 75th for the foreseeable future.

Don't miss WITHERING ROSE, a dystopian romance from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis that reimagines the classic fairy tale of Beauty & The Beast. This is the second book in Once Upon A Curse, a series of interconnected stand-alone novels all set in the same fantasy universe.
"As the heat finally disappeared, I felt the bloom blossom in the very core of my soul, a rose just like my name—a ticking clock hidden behind a façade of beauty. From that moment on, my life would become a countdown, and all I could do was wait and watch as the petals of time slowly started to fall."
Omorose Bouchene has a secret—magic. There's only one problem. At the age of seven, an earthquake struck, catapulting her into a new world. A land made of skyscrapers and cell phones. Fast cars and fluorescent lights. A land where magic isn't supposed to exist and anyone who wields it is the enemy.
But after ten years of hiding, she's desperate to find a place where she can be free. Because all magic comes with a curse, and her curse is time—every ounce of power she uses strips days off of her life. The clock is winding down, and the only option left is to escape to the realm ruled by a man known only as the Beast. But the king of monsters isn’t what he seems. And the more Omorose opens her heart, the more she comes to realize that the only person she may need to fear is herself.

RAVE REVIEWS for Gathering Frost!

"My favorite thing about this book is the action. Jade isn't a sleeping princess. She's the best fighter and so fierce in her "empty" state. I felt like this was an urban fantasy with all the steam of a romance, and it was almost perfect for me."
  - Jessie Potts, USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog

"Davis writes with confidence and poise, and the story's many twists and turns stave off predictability and allow readers to become immersed in a starkly magical world filled with last hopes." - Publisher's Weekly

"Gathering Frost is just awesome in every way. Beautiful prose, lots of heart-wrenching emotion, action and romance, a great, unstoppable villain, and a smart, tough heroine who will fight for what she wants." - Geeks in High School

"The writing is flawless as always and I must say, way to take a classic and make such a creative and wonderful twist to it...It's well thought out and it unbelievably magnificent. I seriously couldn't put it down. Wait I never actually put it down. I started and finished in one sitting because it's just that good. This one is a MUST READ."

"I love adventure in books and in real life. I've roamed the Rocky Mountains, wandered the desert, enjoyed way too many classes in college, was stalked by a mountain lion, lost an argument with a rattlesnake, fell in love at least a dozen times, finally met and married my very own hero, and together we've raised four free-spirited children."
Award-winning author - Kensington published four of Kathleen's Regency romantic comedies, including MISTAKEN KISS, a Holt Medallion finalist. DIARY OF A TEENAGE FAIRY GODMOTHER, was a Golden Quill finalist. Her upcoming Historical YA series with TorTeen, A SCHOOL FOR UNUSUAL GIRLS, is a Junior Library Guild Selection and won a Marlene.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

My young nephew inspired the basic Stranje House series concept. He insisted I should write a book about girls learning to be warriors. He was very specific, too. The girls should go away to a school and there should be an older and wiser mentor teaching them. Clever little dude got my creative water wheel turning and soon I couldn’t stop the ideas from flowing.

The girls in my story aren’t just learning to be warriors, they’re becoming spies in the war effort against Napoleon. Being a warrior is all part of a more complex training.

EXILE FOR DREAMERS, though, is specifically based on my own experiences with dreams. I’ve always struggled with my dreams and deciphering their meaning . . . Tess’s dreams are an amplified version of that problem.Writers draw can only from what they know. So, in a way every character, every storyline is a little bit of our souls inked onto the page.

3 winners will receive a finished copy of EXILE FOR DREAMERS.
US/Canada Only.

HarperCollins Children's Book ARC Review: Hello, My Name Is Tiger (Jennifer P Goldfinger)

Hello, My Name Is Tiger
Hardcover, 40 pages
Expected publication: July 12th 2016 by HarperCollins

A reassuring picture book for back-to-school jitters!
Toby likes being a cat more than he likes being a boy. So when it’s time to go to school, he becomes a timid kitten. But when Toby finally gathers the courage to join in with the other kids, he finds out that everything is more fun with friends.
From talented author and illustrator Jennifer P. Goldfinger comes this adorable picture book about just being yourself.

I was born 1963 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I don’t remember much of Pittsburgh because my family moved when I was three, then moved when I was six and so on and so forth until I had moved and changed schools seven more times by the time I finished high school. My strongest memories as a child were of our farm in Ohio. The farm was an hour away from school and friends. Besides keeping busy taking care of our animals, (we had 4 cows, 25 chickens, 6 horses, a few sheep, some rabbits, many cats, and several dogs) we played in the barn, worked in the garden, rode the horses and swam and skated on our pond. My sister was taking an art class when she was 11 and I would peek in on her while she used her new drawing tricks. I remember she was drawing an egg and shading her drawing to make it look round. It was like magic! I’ll never forget that moment. From then on, I drew and painted all of the time.
After college, I did lots of odd jobs in the art field, including art directing, computer graphics, and mural painting. They were all fun, but none of them felt like THE JOB; the work that I would want to do for rest of my life. After a few years of trying to figure it out, I met a children’s book illustrator who became a good friend. One day he broke his arm mountain biking. Unfortunately for him, he was in the middle of a book and had a deadline. Fortunately for me, the publisher picked me to finish the book after lots of other illustrators tried to copy his style. I loved illustrating that book so much, I forgot to eat, drink or go to bed. I had found my passion.
I sent out some drawings to about 15 publishers and got some great responses. The vice president of Little, Brown Publishers called to ask me if we could have a meeting. He wanted to see if I had written any stories. I racked my brain; it hadn’t occurred to me to write a book too. It took me a couple of years to develop the idea for my first book A FISH NAMED SPOT. I was eight months pregnant when I got the contract to begin the work and my husband was in medical school, so I drew most of A FISH NAMED SPOT with a baby bouncing on my lap.
Now I live in a town a quick drive away from Boston and Cambridge, with my husband and two daughters. I have a studio in an old Mill that’s on a bike path. It takes me 5 minutes to bike there, but it’s downhill from my house, so it takes twice as long to get home. I usually drive to the studio so I can bring my dog Lila. Sometimes Lila and I take breaks from my work to go rollerblading.

Cute Inspirational children's book!

Hello, My Name Is Tiger is a cute, inspirational children's book that helps to show kids how to be social and that having friends is fun! The story is about a shy timid young boy named Toby who dressed up and pretends to be a cat so that he doesn't have to talk with people.

The book is filled with vibrant, colorful illustrations that will catch a child's attention and keep them interested in the story.

Toby is shy and scared at school until he meets another young boy who is just as shy and scared as he is. Together, Toby and his new friend Pete are able to overcome their fears and shyness to become instant friends.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with a young child who is shy or has difficulty making friend or just enjoys a cute inspirational story. I greatly enjoyed reading this adorable children's book and following Toby's story as he overcame his fears and became very happy with his new friends.
