Adam Blackwood has it all. At twenty-two, he’s fabulously wealthy, Ryan Gosling-hot and at the top of his game in the business world. Alison Quick, the twenty-one-year-old daughter of a business tycoon—and the very ex-girlfriend of Boomerang’s former intern, Ethan—has a problem of her own. After nearly flunking out in her senior year of college, she has one chance to redeem herself to her father by proving that she deserves a place in his corporate empire. That means spearheading her father’s plan to sink big money into Adam’s company and launch it into the stratosphere—provided Adam has no skeletons in his closet.
When the two meet, their sizzling chemistry makes it tough to keep things strictly professional. But when Alison discovers Adam’s secret, she knows she should bring it right to her father, who’ll leverage it for his own gain and use it to ruin Adam. The only problem: she’s falling for Adam—hard.
Will earning her father’s approval come at the price of losing her first real love? Or can Adam and Alison leave behind past mistakes and conquer the world—together?

Unhappy wife and young mother Penelope Wolfe fears scandal for her family and worse. A Tory newspaper editor has been stabbed while writing a reply to the latest round of letters penned by a firebrand calling himself Collatinus. Twenty years before, her father, the radical Eustace Sandford, wrote as Collatinus before he fled London just ahead of accusations of treason and murder. A mysterious beauty closely connected to Sandford and known only as N.D. had been brutally slain, her killer never punished. The seditious new Collatinus letters that attack the Prince Regent in the press also seek to avenge N.D.’s death and unmask her murderer. What did the journalist know that provoked his death?
Her artist husband Jeremy is no reliable ally, so Penelope turns anew to lawyer Edward Buckler and Bow Street Runner John Chase. As she battles public notoriety, Buckler and Chase put their careers at risk to stand behind her while pursuing various lines of inquiry aimed at N.D.’s murderer, a missing memoir, Royal scandal, and the dead editor’s missing wife. As they navigate the dark underbelly of Regency London among a cast driven by dirty politics and dark passions, as well as by decency and a desire for justice, past secrets and present criminals are exposed, upending Penelope’s life and the lives of others.

1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

Die I Will Not explores royal scandal, 19th-century journalism, and dirty politics. As I researched these topics, I became fascinated by the idea of people struggling to retain their privacy under the relentless, ubiquitous gaze of the modern world—under the gaze of scandals that simply refuse to die. Perhaps readers can relate in our own era of 24-hour news cycles trumpeting the latest brouhaha.

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?

It’s hard to choose! I love that my three protagonists are human beings just trying to live meaningful lives and do the right thing. As a reader, I don’t want to spend time with people whom I can’t admire or even like, so I don’t want them center stage in my books. John Chase, my Bow Street Runner detective, is a man over 40, graying, with an untidy queue. A bit gruff, he has a much kinder heart than he himself realizes.

My heroine Penelope Wolfe is part of the gentry—but her imprudent marriage has forced her to the fringes of Society. Her father is a radical philosopher. Her husband is a spendthrift artist. Her true love, Edward Buckler, is a barrister (a lawyer) who is chivalrous but not particularly dashing or self-assured. John Chase serves as an amused, envious, and somewhat disapproving bystander to this developing romance.

3. Which came first, the title or the novel?

They emerged together. I knew that I wanted to write about “Collatinus,” who employs an alias to write seditious letters in the press, so I needed to find a historical figure from Ancient Rome to fit the profile. Luckily, I soon stumbled upon Collatinus and his more famous wife, Lucretia. My title comes from Shakespeare’s The Rape of Lucrece, a poem about the rape of a Roman noblewoman by the king’s son in 509 BC. Afterwards, the virtuous Lucretia plunged a dagger into her own breast in order to cleanse her shame. To avenge her death, her husband Collatinus and his allies overthrew the monarchy and established the Roman republic. So essentially “die I will not” is Lucretia’s vow that she will not fade into oblivion until her reputation can be restored. In my novel the Lucretia figure is a doomed courtesan, whose tragic story forms the mystery plot.

4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

Well, I spent a lot of time on the courtroom scenes. The intricacies of English law are daunting to a writer, but I hope I’ve gotten most of the details right. In general, I’ve had fun exploring some of the off the beaten track aspects of life in Regency England. Readers familiar with the genre may expect an ordered world of darkly handsome, devil-may-care dukes and ballroom scenes—a sort of comedy of manners, which, by the way, I do appreciate. But I long ago decided that I don’t want to write along those lines.

5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

I learned that the goal is to produce the work to the best of my ability. Anything else is extra. And I’ve learned that I have to separate myself from the cultural din that surrounds us, the clamoring for our attention that everyone experiences today. Writing has always been a solitary pursuit, and I think that solitude and mental focus are absolutely necessary to the process.

6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I’m pleased that my publisher Poisoned Pen Press decided to reissue all three books in the series with brand new covers. The covers are now linked thematically through a recurring blood drop motif, and they’re quite beautiful!

7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2015?

Inspector of the Dead by David Morrell

8. What was your favorite book in 2014?

A King’s Ransom by Sharon Kay Penman

9. What’s up next for you?

I have started researching book #4 in the series. Having left Penelope Wolfe in a precarious position at the end of Die I Will Not, I will need to figure out how she will cope with her family problems while she helps solve a new mystery, of course! I have some exciting ideas for this new novel, which will center around a disputed inheritance.

10. Is there anything that you would like to add?

It’s been great to get to know other mystery and historical fiction readers and writers. That’s the best thing about Internet communities: you can befriend like-minded souls. Who knew that other people in the world actually enjoy living in the 19th century?

Katherine Tegen Books- 5 Star ARC Review: Quake (Patrick Carman)

Quake (Pulse, #3)Hardcover: 288 pages
Expected publication: February 24th 2015 Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books

Author: Patrick Carman
ARC Provided by Publisher in exchange for an Honest Review

Faith Daniels and Dylan Gilmore are in love, and they have a special ability called a pulse: they can move things with their minds. They're caught in the middle of a deadly war with two other pulses: Clara and Wade Quinn, who have joined forces with Hotspur Chance, the most wanted man in the world.
At the start of Quake, Faith and Dylan are holed up in a spectacular abandoned mountain lodge (once used in the film The Shining 71 years before), and their Intel friend Hawk leaves them in the middle of the night, in spite of a newly blossoming love with a girl named Jade. Hawk’s plan is to penetrate the Western State and make contact with a sleeper cell working on the inside that will give them valuable information about Hotspur’s violent plan.
But while Hawk is searching for answers on the inside, Faith and Dylan are still fighting on the outside. In a series of hair-raising battles, the second pulses duel it out, only to raise the body count on both sides. During the battles, Faith and Dylan discover an even great strength: the power of their combined love. Together, Faith and Dylan might just be able to save the world with a quake that is big enough to change the course of history.

Everyone Fears A Quake. Few Can Create One.

Quake is the final book in the Pulse Trilogy and let me tell you....Patrick Carman knows how to wrap up an incredible series in one final book. WOW....That is the first thing I thought when I turned the last page in this book....WOW.....and the next thing I thought was...What a gorgeous cover!! I love all of the covers in the Pulse Trilogy but this may be my favorite.

Pulse and Tremor were both phenomenal books and had plenty of action and romance scenes but Quake knocks both of them out of the water!!!!! WOW...Patrick Carman revealed so many secrets and twists in this final book that NO ONE will see coming. There were certain moments when I just stared at the words and said "WHAT? SERIOUSLY??" Yeah...Patrick Carman created an amazing trilogy with the Pulse trilogy. This trilogy has it all......intense action, spell-binding romance, and plenty of "WHAT??" moments.....

Quake picks up right where Tremor left off. The team (Clooger, Hawk, Dylan, Faith, and Jade) are all headed to a non-disclosed location in order to gather their thoughts and figure out their next move. They know that they have to stop Hotspur Chance and the evil twins, Clara and Wade, but they have to move carefully because this may be their last chance to defeat them and save the Western state.

"There are only four second pulses in the world. The first pulse gives them the ability to move almost anything with the power of the mind, including themselves. The second pulse deflects all things. These four people are close to indestructible, but not quite. Each one has a weakness, a Kryptonite."

Dylan and Faith's relationship has developed into a breath-taking romance and they are destined to be together. Their chemistry truly makes the story. They work together perfectly as a team and know how to support each others weaknesses and strengths. Their romance and their belief that they will be able to defeat the Wades and Hotspur Chance is what keeps the entire team fighting. They all believe in Dylan and Faith and will fight with them till the end.

"She thought but did not say..I love you, Dylan Gilmore. I never left you, not for one second, and then she turned back to Clara."

There are so many things that happen in this final book. I am just in awe at Patrick Carman's ability to write such an intense, emotional, epic conclusion to this series. I knew there would be lots of action and fighting scenes but I was not prepared for the emotional journey that I was about to endure also.....

If you have not read this series then you are truly missing out. This is a phenomenal Young Adult Dystopian/Sci-Fi series and I truly did LOVE it. I am completely obsessed with any story that is about survival and Quake is a perfect example. I am going to miss these characters ....BUT I am happy with how the series concluded...Bravo Patrick Carman....Bravo.....

"Bingo!" I gathered the corners of the tablecloth together so I could carry the whole thing like a sack, then slung the makeshift bag over my shoulder and turned back to Lukas. He was staring dead ahead with his mouth open and eyes wide like he'd seen a ghost. "What is it?"

His left brow twitched. The number one sign that he was about to say something I wouldn’t like. "Elaine Davis."

I readjusted the makeshift sack across my shoulders. It was heavier than I thought it'd be. "Who?"

Lukas was still staring at the wall in front of us. "Her name. It's Elaine Davis."

I looked around the room. There was no one here but him and me. "Whose name is Elaine Davis? The wall?"

He sighed. "Lucy."

I almost dropped the sack. "You can see her?"

He shuffled from foot to foot before looking me in the eye. Another twitch from his left brow. "Yes."

Since when could he see the dead? From the look on his face, this wasn't something brand spanking new, either. The guilt was etched like runes in marble. He'd been holding out on me.

"And she just told you her name?"

He looked from me to the corner, cringing a little. "Not exactly."

I took a step toward the door and set the bundle down against the wall. It flopped over noisily, but the knot held together. "Not exactly? What does that mean?"

He didn't answer.

I moved forward to wave a hand in front of his face. The whole staring into space thing was getting creepy. "Hellooo?"

With another sigh, he said, "I know her."

"You…know her."

"I courted her. Before my marriage to Meredith was arranged. I courted Elaine."

"Courted Elaine," I repeated like a parrot. When he didn't answer, I understood. "Holy crap! You're saying you dated Lucy?"

"Elaine," he corrected calmly.

"Whatever. Are you serious? Like, seriously serious? You dated the dead girl in Town Hall?"

He rolled his eyes. "She wasn't dead when we dated, Jessie."

I am the oldest of four children and grew up in a small town in Western Michigan. I grew up reading mysteries, starting with "The Bobbsey Twins" and "The Nancy Drew" series.By fifth grade I was writing my own mysteries and illustrating them as well. I've always known that I wanted to be a writer and I tucked that little piece of information into the back of my brain; determined to take it out and use it when it was time. After graduating from Central Michigan University with a Marketing Degree, I landed a sales job. I was on my way! After spending 13 years in the Insurance industry, I met my husband. We soon married and had two beautiful boys. I decided to stay home with my kids. A tough decision, but one I don't regret.I did, however, miss the hustle and bustle of work - and working toward a goal. That is when the little voice inside my brain said, "It's time to write."So I did, and "The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer" was born, followed by my new book, "The Super Spies and the High School Bomber."I am very excited as I begin this new "chapter" in my life.

Henge by Realm Lovejoy is a YA Fantasy that is a modern spin-off of the Arthurian legends featuring Morgan Le Fay as the protagonist. This tour will consist of reviews, interviews & guest posts. Check out the full schedule for more information.

HENGE Cover
Modern-day Camelot. Where knights no longer carry swords. Magic is dangerous. And those who seek control are not to be trusted.

Sixteen-year-old Morgan le Fay is a fire user. An ordinary girl with an extraordinary skill, she has the ability to create and command fire at will. Her dream is to become the Maven—the right hand of the future King Arthur. In the chance of a lifetime, Morgan is selected to join Arthur’s Round, an elite group of young magic users from which the new Maven will be chosen.

Along with the other fire, water, and wind users in Arthur’s Round, Morgan is rigorously trained and tested. The handsome Merlin, a brilliant water user, takes a particular interest in her. Is his friendship to be trusted, or is Merlin simply trying to win the position of Maven for himself? Among the many rivals Morgan faces is the current Maven, Mordred, who seems determined to see her fail.

But Morgan has a secret—years ago, her mother was executed for using fire magic, and Morgan’s desire for justice makes her more than ready to take on the challenge before her. Can she prevail in Camelot’s tests of survival and magic? Only time—and Morgan’s powerful fire—will tell.

Realm Lovejoy’s modern Arthurian series features one of literature’s most complicated and powerful female figures. Henge is the first book in the LE FAY series, and—like Morgan le Fay’s magic—it is sure to dazzle and amaze.

Find the Author:

1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

I've been itching to write a dark story about rivalry. Morgan le Fay is my favorite Arthurian character and I thought about how frustrated she must be that she's so powerful, yet Merlin gets all the awesome wizard credit. He's the famous one everybody knows. I adapted Merlin and Morgan into modern teenagers and as soon as I started writing about them, I couldn't stop.

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?

Morgan le Fay is my favorite not only in the legends, but also in my modern spin-off tale!

3. Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel. I simply called the book "Le Fay" for years since it was about Morgan le Fay. It took me a while to come up with the book titles for the series and it all came together just this summer.

4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

That's a really tough question. Without giving away spoilers, I like the scenes where Morgan goes through strong emotions and struggles with the dark side that's lurking inside her. As a writer, it’s interesting to be thrown into the tempest of someone else’s mind, especially when it’s a bit unfamiliar and in some ways scary.

5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

To keep things simple! For example, my first novel Clan was two times longer than it is now. I had to learn to trim down.

6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I like the mood the best. It's got a mysterious look and Morgan le Fay looks like she's in suspense. I think it conveys the general feeling of the first book.

7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2015?

I think my author friend Courtney Summers's book All the Rage is going to be great!

8. What was your favorite book in 2014?

It came out a very long time ago, but I discovered Lynd Ward's Gods' Man this year. It's a wordless graphic novel. The pictures are gorgeous, dramatic, and striking. It's a treasure—one of those things I feel lucky to discover.

9. What’s up next for you?

I’m drafting the second book in the Le Fay Series. It’s a lot darker than the first book with a few twists. I’m especially excited about it because the second book is what drove me to write the series in the first place. It's the big bang that spun out the story in my mind and I can’t wait to share the next book with everyone. It’s coming out in 2015!

For side projects, I am in the progress of adapting my novels into screenplays and graphic novels.

10. Is there anything that you would like to add?

I'd like readers to know that the paperback version of Henge is illustrated with around 15 drawings by me in case they are interested in art! I hope everyone who gives Henge a go will enjoy the story!
