Seventeen-year-old Zayn has special powers she cannot control—powers that others fear and covet. Powers that cause the Templar Knights to burn Zayn’s mother at the stake for witchcraft. When a mysterious stranger tempts Zayn to become the first female member of the heretical Assassins, the chance to seek her revenge lures her in. She trains to harness her supernatural strength and agility, and then enters the King of Jerusalem's court in disguise with the assignment to assassinate Guy de Molay, her mother’s condemner. But once there, she discovers Earic Goodwin, the childhood friend who still holds her heart, among the knights—and his ocean-blue eyes don’t miss a thing. Very intriguing story! I totally got sucked into a world of the past. Zayn is a young girl living with her mother in a village where they keep to themselves. Zayn knows she is different and has powers that she does not know how to control...yet!
Very early in the book Zayn's mother, accused of being a witch, is burned at the stake at the hands of Guy de Molay. Zayn's mother never told her who her father was or why she has these special powers. Not only did Molay kill Zayn's mother but he also raped Zayn. Zayn decided to trust a stranger and leave the village to train to be an assassin. Zayn knew she wanted to avenge her mothers death and her rape.
Will she become a knight assassin?! Will she kill Guy de Molay?! This books keeps you guessing on who is good and who is bad! Who can Zayn really trust? I highly recommend this book! I will for sure being reading the rest of the series! I give it 4.5 stars!
