Blog Tour & Review: The Darkest Corners (Kara Thomas)

For fans of Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places and Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars

comes the next twisted, psychological thriller,

THE DARKEST CORNERS

By Kara Thomas

"Gripping from start to finish, THE DARKEST CORNERS took me into an underbelly I didn't know existed, with twists that left me shocked and racing forward to get to the end.”
—Victoria Aveyard, #1 NYT bestselling author of Red Queen

The Darkest Corners

Hardcover, 336 pages
Expected publication: April 19th 2016 by Delacorte

The Darkest Corners is a psychological thriller about the lies little girls tell, and the deadly truths those lies become. There are ghosts around every corner in Fayette, Pennsylvania. Tessa left when she was nine and has been trying ever since not to think about it after what happened there that last summer. Memories of things so dark will burn themselves into your mind if you let them. Callie never left. She moved to another house, so she doesn’t have to walk those same halls, but then Callie always was the stronger one. She can handle staring into the faces of her demons—and if she parties hard enough, maybe one day they’ll disappear for good. Tessa and Callie have never talked about what they saw that night. After the trial, Callhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17927395-a-court-of-mist-and-fury?ac=1&from_search=1&from_nav=trueie drifted and Tessa moved, and childhood friends just have a way of losing touch. But ever since she left, Tessa has had questions. Things have never quite added up. And now she has to go back to Fayette—to Wyatt Stokes, sitting on death row; to Lori Cawley, Callie’s dead cousin; and to the one other person who may be hiding the truth. Only the closer Tessa gets to the truth, the closer she gets to a killer—and this time, it won’t be so easy to run away.

"By the last page,
there will be no one left to trust...."

Wow...just WOW...I am usually a fantasy or romance type of reader but when I read the synopsis for The Darkest Corners....something just told me that I HAD to read it! and I was not disappointed! I literally could not put this book down. Kara Thomas's writing is mesmerizing and makes the characters so real and I absolutely loved Tessa's character. Tessa is so strong and has been through so much and yet has not given up on finding the truth...She knows that she and Callie missed something all those years ago and she knows there is still answers and secrets to be uncovered so she is not giving up till she gets to the bottom of it.

The Darkest Corners is a young adult murder mystery that is centered around two main characters, Tessa and Callie. Ten years before, it was Tessa and Callie's testimony that put the "River Monster" behind bars for murdering young girls in their hometown. Tessa's older sisters friend, Lori, was the last victim and Tessa and Callie were home the night she disappeared and testified in the case that put the "assumed killer", Wyatt Stokes, behind bars. The Ohio River Monster is described as a serial killer because he chooses young girls who are going through bad times and making bad choices and when he kills them he always leaves their bodies near the river in the same vicinity of each other.

The story begins ten years after the arrest when Tessa receives a call that her father, whom is in prison in her hometown, is dying and wants to see her before he passes away. Tessa is invited to stay with her old best friend, Callie, and when she arrives back in town she begins to have memories of her past and begins to question what she and Callie told the police all those years ago.

"Every now and then another answer to what happened that night sneaks in from the darkest corners of my mind. I usually squash it like a mosquito--there's no point dwelling on questions no one can answer for me.
But now that I'm here, I can't ignore certain things any longer.
There are worse things in this world than monsters, and somehow, they always manage to find me."

The Darkest Corners is an intense murder mystery with so many twists and secrets and I literally found myself staring at the pages in disbelief. I was completely obsessed with this story and figuring out the truth. Stories regarding family secrets are always so fascinating and you never know what is going to happen and who a person really is.....

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery, family secrets, and uncovering the truth. I absolutely loved this book and am really looking forward to Kara Thomas's next book. I LOVED the intensity of Kara's writing and how her characters are so full of emotion, so REAL, and they drew me in and captivated me until the very last page.

Rockstar Book Tours Blog Tour, Review, & Giveaway: Burning Midnight (Will McIntosh)

Title: BURNING MIDNIGHT
Author: Will McIntosh
Release Date: February 2, 2016
Pages: 320
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook

For fans of The Maze Runner and The Fifth Wave, this debut YA novel from Hugo Award winner Will McIntosh pits four underprivileged teens against an evil billionaire in the race of a lifetime.
Sully is a sphere dealer at a flea market. It doesn’t pay much—Alex Holliday’s stores have muscled out most of the independent sellers—but it helps him and his mom make the rent. No one knows where the brilliant-colored spheres came from. One day they were just there, hidden all over the earth like huge gemstones. Burn a pair and they make you a little better: an inch taller, skilled at math, better-looking. The rarer the sphere, the greater the improvement—and the more expensive the sphere.
When Sully meets Hunter, a girl with a natural talent for finding spheres, the two start searching together. One day they find a Gold—a color no one has ever seen. And when Alex Holliday learns what they have, he will go to any lengths, will use all of his wealth and power, to take it from them.
There’s no question the Gold is priceless, but what does it actually do? None of them is aware of it yet, but the fate of the world rests on this little golden orb. Because all the world fights over the spheres, but no one knows where they come from, what their powers are, or why they’re here.

For readers of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones and Leigh Bardugo'sShadow and Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war.
Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she's ever known.
Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she's fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it's time to act.
Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it's how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it.
But some jobs aren't as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.
