Book Nerd Blast & Giveaway: Something Great (M. Clarke)

She didn’t know what she was missing…until he found her.
Maxwell Knight was positively trouble, dangerously good-looking, and seductively charming. He was everything Jeanella didn’t need in her life. Only Maxwell didn’t see it that way. His pursuit was relentless, making her even more determined to push him away.
Fresh out of college, life was simple and plain for Jeanella Mefferd. Every part of her life was smooth sailing; her friends, her job, and even the guy she’d started dating. Then one night, while at dinner, she spotted someone who made her feel things she’d never felt before—dangerous, heart pounding and breathless heat. Thinking she would never see him again, she brushed it off, but when she started to run into him unexpectedly, all she could think of was how he made her feel with his sweet flirtations. Everything about Maxwell Knight screamed trouble, especially when she found out he was her new boss’s son. Now, heading to a New York fashion show, would she be able to focus on her career instead of Maxwell, who had been scheduled to attend with her? As much as she tried to forget their encounters, his good looks, smooth words and determination to win her over gravitated her toward him. The next thing she knew, her mind was utterly consumed by him. Would she be willing to ignore all the dangerous signs and jump into his arms? Or would she miss out on the chance of finding something great?

Frankie Ash
Frankie Ash grew up on the eastern shores of the US, and her Southern accent would rock as a cartoon character voice. Most of her time is spent with her laptop, spinning tales, fabricating worlds, and writing new creatures into existence. But when she’s not playing Dr. Frankenstein with words, she is either reading, absorbing anything sci-fi/fantasy related, or chasing after, and sometimes capturing, things that go bump in the night.
Her debut novel, Eramane (Archway Publishing) is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million, IndieBound, and Kobo.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
It started with one specific scene in my head. I wrote the scene and that was that, a half page of, well nothing really. Then another idea came, but it had nothing to do with the first one, only that the feeling was there, just dark and haunting. Then I was driving and it occurred to me how I could connect them, and I did! But it ends up that the first scene I wrote didn’t end up in the book.

Who is your favorite character in the book?
I’m so attached to several of the characters, but I’m all about Eramane. She’s the reason I kept writing when I felt I couldn’t anymore.

Which came first, the title or the novel?
The novel. I had another title for it up until five months prior to publication. I wasn’t happy with the original and decided to name it after the MC.

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
Ummm…well I really love the scene at the river, when Eramane’s life changes forever. That moment is such a pivotal point and it had to be written a certain way, with a perfect balance of light and dark. I like to think I did that. I rewrote that chapter a gazillion times until I felt a 100% about it. But I also really like the scene in the Gate chamber when they fight Adikiah. I love writing action scenes. Reminds me of the old Batman show, “BAM,” “POW,” “WHACK,” only better!

Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
I don’t know that I’ve learned the most important thing yet. I’m still pretty green. I find that I learn something paramount each time I write. But if I must choose in order to keep my head I would say that it is important to let it flow. Holding back doesn’t do any good, unless you’re about to blow chunks in a crowded room.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?
The look on Eramane’s face. She looks tough, pissed, like she wants to mess something up all kinds of bad.

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2014?
I’m not gonna lie, my second book! Straight up. But I pray to the writing gods that George R. R. Martin’s The Winds of Winter gets miraculously released. *Opens Computer Hacking for Dummies*. “Like I said officer, it was mer-ack-a-lus!”

What was your favorite book in 2013?
Right now I’m reading Doctor Sleep. It’s got my love squeezes at the moment.

What’s up next for you?
To keep on writing stories that people enjoy. I’m nearly finished with The Eramane Trilogy which is ahhhhhhh….exciting! I have a few other ideas that are gnawing away at me, so they needs to get writ!

The conclusion to Between the Devil and The Deep Blue Sea, this gothic thriller romance with shades of Stephen King and Daphne du Maurier is a must-read for fans of Beautiful Creatures and Anna Dressed in Blood.
Freddie once told me that the Devil created all the fear in the world. But then, the Devil once told me that it's easier to forgive someone for scaring you than for making you cry.The problem with River West Redding was that he'd done both to me.
The crooked-smiling liar River West Redding, who drove into Violet's life one summer day and shook her world to pieces, is gone. Violet and Neely, River's other brother, are left to worry—until they catch a two a.m. radio program about strange events in a distant mountain town. They take off in search of River but are always a step behind, finding instead frenzied towns, witch hunts, and a wind-whipped island with the thrum of something strange and dangerous just under the surface. It isn't long before Violet begins to wonder if Neely, the one Redding brother she thought trustworthy, has been hiding a secret of his own . . .

Spring Moon Part 2
I’m cute, apparently. Or that’s what Nanny, the woman who has looked after me since I was really little, says. My mother was crazy about Indiana Jones, so she named me Indiana Teller. Pathetic.
Still, I can see better than most people, and I can smell better, though that’s something I often regret when I’m in a crowd. I hear better, too.
I’ve got a big family, lots of cousins, my grandfather, grandmother, Karl, and Amber Teller. And my mother, Jessica.
Who is insane.
She’s locked up in a very special institution reserved for our unnatural race. Her mind wanders, and she’s unable to tell between the present, the past, or the future. She never knows where she is, sometimes she doesn’t even know who she is. Seeing her breaks my heart, so I almost never visit her although most times she doesn’t even know I’m there.
Maybe she resents me.
After all, she killed my father because of me.

It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?
Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

This book drew me in with the first paragraph! It starts with the mention of an accident and a girl! If you have an imagination about what is out there in our universe then this is a great book for you! Major Tarver is a decorated war hero abroad the Icarus, a ship that is traveling hyperspace.

Tarver meets the beautiful Miss Lilac LaRoux. Lilac's dad is a very powerful and protective man. Tarver and Lilac finds themselves together in an escape pod when the Icarus is pulled from space. They crash in a land that seems to be uninhabited. But is it?!!

Interesting things start to happen as they grow closer together stranded in this unknown land. I would recommend this book! I give it 3.5 stars!

1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

I decided to write my middle grade series because I wanted to feel young again. I wanted to write in a fresh young voice that would make readers laugh while helping them understand that you should always seethe funny side of things.
The first book in the Harriet Hughes series was sparked by an aerobics class at the gym. During this class I felt a bit like Harriet, I was taking a step to the left while every other person in the room was already two steps ahead swinging their arms to the right. I went home thinking about how ridiculous I had looked and started to imagine what it would be like for a clumsy young girl to have to endure a dance class.

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?

I love Harriet’s Mom – Mrs Hughes. I have always wanted to have my very own aphid eating insect – a red 1973 Volkswagen beetle with a black spotty paint job.

3. Which came first, the title or the novel?

The Title.

4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I love the scene where Mrs. Hughes Manages to land her Volkswagen beetle on the roof a house.

I can’t help but laugh at the thought of her spotty Volkswagen beetle being lifted out from the roof
of a house as the neighbors watch from the side-lines.

5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

Make sure that your book is ready before jumping into the publishing process, self-published books need to be professionally edited and of very high quality if you wish to compete with the mainstream books on the market. The book market has been flooded with masses of books in recent years and you really need to deliver a good quality product if you hope to achieve commercial success.

6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I really like the colours, the textured green background on the cover of Diary of a Dancing Drama Queen is really striking. I may be a bit biased though because I love anything in green.

7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2014?

I will be publishing a picture book, called How Andrew got His Spots early next year. I am very excited about this book!
The story is a rhyming adaptation of a story I wrote in the third grade, about how giraffes came to have spots.
I have just received the first illustration for the book and it literally took my breath away.

8. What was your favorite book in 2013?

I really enjoyed reading the Hunger Games.

9. What’s up next for you?

I am busy working on some illustrated picture books, which will be released next year. They have been lots of fun to write and are currently in the process of being illustrated.
The biggest problem I have is that I come up with picture book ideas and write them faster than they can be illustrated so I end up having to wait a long time before seeing
the end product.

10. Is there anything that you would like to add?

I would just like to remind all aspiring writers to follow your dreams and write because you enjoy it.

frances fryfieldI grew up in rural Derbyshire, but my adult life has been spent mostly in London, with long intervals in Norfolk and Deal, all inspiring places. I was educated mostly in convent schools; then studied English and went on to qualify as a solicitor, working for what is now the Crown Prosecution Service, thus learning a bit about murder at second hand. Years later, writing became the real vocation, although the law and its ramifications still haunt me and inform many of my novels.
I’m a novelist, short story writer for magazines and radio, sometime Radio 4 contributor, (Front Row, Quote Unquote, Night Waves,) and presenter of Tales from the Stave. When I’m not working (which is as often as possible), I can be found in the nearest junk/charity shop or auction, looking for the kind of paintings which enhance my life. Otherwise, with a bit of luck, I’m relaxing by the sea with a bottle of wine and a friend or two.
