Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.

Think Romeo and Juliet meets The Godfather. Oh yeah. #bloodforblood #Vendetta

Blood Will Spill, Hearts Will Break: With a fierce rivalry raging between two warring families, falling in love is the deadliest thing Sophie could do. An epic debut set outside modern-day Chicago.
For Sophie, it starts as just another slow, hot summer in Cedar Hill. Then a new family moves into the long-abandoned mansion across the street: the Falcone family, with its five mysterious brothers. Unable to resist bad boy Nicoli, Sophie finds herself falling for him--and into his world. But just as the dark secrets of the Falcones begin to come to light, the skeletons of her own family, the Gracewells, rise to the surface, too. And soon Sophie is torn between the desires of two warring dynasties: the one she was born into and the one she's now in love with. But she'll have to choose between passion and honor. And when she does, blood will spill and hearts will break. Because in this twisted underworld, loyalty can mean the difference between life and death.

I have read several of Melissa Fosters books and I am not sure any of them have shocked me as much as this one, Seaside Secrets. I first fell in love with this group of friends when I read Seaside Dreams.

I was so excited to read more about the attraction between Amy and Tony. I thought Amy was just to scared to tell Tony how she felt and I thought Tony was a surfer dude who didn't want a committed relationship. Boy was I wrong!!!! The past secret they shared was so full of emotion!

I highly recommend any book by Melissa Foster! I give this one 5 stars.

At almost 15, late-bloomer Bea Parker has just discovered that her aunt, uncle and cousins—the only family she’s ever known—aren’t actually related to her and don’t know anything about her birth parents. Then a strange, high-tech device shows up in her room in the middle of the night with a note promising answers about her shadowed past. This alien technology takes her on a journey that forces her to leave behind Earth, and everything she knows, to meet her destiny.

I discovered science fiction when I was four. My father loved Star Trek, the original series. Every Friday night he’d make a big deal of getting the house quiet so he could hear the TV. The importance of it drew me in. And then I was hooked on other worlds, molecules being scrambled and reformed, and meeting totally logical aliens. As I grew older and continued to watch, I loved the idea that a story could explore our contemporary dilemmas couched in two-tone faces or hidden with green skin. Science fiction was the “gateway genre” that led me to fantasy and paranormal fiction.
I began my first novel at age 12. I still have the ring binder with the hand-written pages of OOTG-1 (that stands for Out of the Galaxy)—the story of the first manned expedition to venture forth beyond our galaxy. Alas, after about thirty pages my hand got tired and the crew never left the Milky Way. But that experience sparked a lifelong love of writing which  has continued through my school days to the present.
When I'm not enjoying the alternate universes of my written creations, I live, work, and play  Seattle, Washington.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

I love a book series called “Nine Princes in Amber” by Roger Zelazny. In it there was a royal family that transported through a deck of playing cards with the family members’ pictures on them. I always wanted to pay homage to that idea. I don’t think the stories are at all similar, but I think that is where the seed came from.

Who is your favorite character in the book?

I have to pick just one!?!? I guess it would have to be Bea. At times she makes…unwise…decisions. But that is part of what I love about her. I sympathize with wanting to keep moving—to just do something. And then you end up acting before you’ve thought it out. But she has passion. Gotta love that.

Which came first, the title or the novel?

They came at the same time—a very unique occurrence for me. I kept trying to change the name because I thought it was way too long. But no matter what I came up with (I even had other writers come up with options) I just couldn’t change it. This just was the title the book wanted. (Crazy? That’s the only way I can describe it.)

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I love the end—I don’t want to give anything away. (I’ll be careful.) I love that she made the decision to do something for others and to do it alone. And in the end she was supported in a big way.

Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

To plot the story out BEFORE you begin. Outline, that is. It doesn’t have to be set in stone, but I have to know there is a viable path. And if I change it along the way I can see the ripple effect right away. Book Two is much smoother sailing because of this.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I designed the cover so I’m a bit biased. ☺ I love that I found a picture of someone who was very similar to what I think Bea looks like. And that it is a profile view so I can use my imagination to complete the picture and make her exactly what I imagined. (I also edited the face in Photoshop. That helped.)

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2016?

The next Game of Thrones! I can’t get enough of that world.

What was your favorite book in 2015?

Now, that IS impossible. I couldn’t say. But my favorite of the books I’m reading right now is The Thought Readers by Dima Zales. It’s really fun.

What’s up next for you?

Well, I’m planning on releasing Queen Bea Two later this year. I’m also working on another series called Shadow Gems. I’ve finished a draft of the first book in that series. It’s a paranormal thriller about the fight to control Gems—those born with a variety of special abilities. (Now that I think about it, it is sort of in the same vein as The Thought Readers. That genre definitely.)

Is there anything that you would like to add?!

Just that I had so much fun following Bea on this adventure and I hope others enjoy it as well. And a big thanks to all of those who’ve read it!

Rockstar Book Tours, Review, & Giveaway: My Best Everything (Sarah Tomp)

Title: MY BEST EVERYTHING
Author: Sarah Tomp
Pub. Date: March 3, 2015
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Pages: 400Formats: Hardcover, eBook

You say it was all meant to be. You and me. The way we met. Our secrets in the woods. Even the way it all exploded. It was simply a matter of fate.
Maybe if you were here to tell me again, to explain it one more time, then maybe I wouldn’t feel so uncertain. But I’m going back to the beginning on my own. To see what happened and why.
Luisa “Lulu” Mendez has just finished her final year of high school in a small Virginia town, determined to move on and leave her job at the local junkyard behind. So when her father loses her college tuition money, Lulu needs a new ticket out.
Desperate for funds, she cooks up the (definitely illegal) plan to make and sell moonshine with her friends, Roni and Bucky. Quickly realizing they’re out of their depth, Lulu turns to Mason: a local boy who’s always seemed like a dead end. As Mason guides Lulu through the secret world of moonshine, it looks like her plan might actually work. But can she leave town before she loses everything – including her heart?
The summer walks the line between toxic and intoxicating. My Best Everything is Lulu’s letter to Mason – though is it an apology, a good-bye, or a love letter?

The first thing that drew my attention to this book ...was the cover. The cover is simple, colorful, and fits the book perfect. My Best Everything is a YA contemporary coming-of-age story about a young girl facing real-life issues and the consequences that occur with the choices she makes. In My Best Everything...the characters begin to realize that you define your future by the choices you make.

Luisa "Lulu" Mendez is a high school graduate that has had her life planned out since she was a young girl. She and her family have always lived in the small town of Dale, Virginia and her dream has always been to get away from the small town life and attend college at the University of San Diego. Lulu is planning her getaway to when her Dad tells her that the money that was saved up for her college tuition has been spent and that he cant help her pay for college. Lulu is heartbroken...all she has ever wanted was to attend college.

This is the point in the story where everything changes. LuLu and her best friend, Roni, discover an old moonshine still while they are working at their job at the junkyard. Lulu then gets the idea that she is going to make and sell moonshine to try and fund her way through college. Lulu begins to realize that she has no clue about how to make moonshine. She knows of a boy named Mason whose family is known for making and selling moonshine so she contacts Mason and asks for his help with her new venture.

Mason is a high school dropout and recovering alcoholic who has learning from his mistakes and is attempting to begin a new life. Once Mason and Lulu become friends and begin spending more time together...Lulu realizes that there is more to Mason than everyone realizes. The reputation that Mason has is nothing like what the real Mason is like. Lulu and Mason's relationship begins to become more complicated and more feelings become involved.....

My Best Everything is a story about first experiences, learning from your past experiences, and making choices about your future experiences. It is a great story about romance, emotions, and life.

Things I like? Swedish cinnamon buns, yoga, tea, salt liquorice, sleeping on boats, compassion and other people's creativity. Things I do not like? Okra. The vegetable is also known as ladies fingers, which makes them even less appetising to me. Blah!

I have always enjoyed making up characters and their life stories, therefore I jumped at the chance to study theatre at the University of Brighton.
