28367592Title: THE WOMEN IN THE WALLS
Author: Amy Lukavics
Pub. Date: September 27, 2016
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Pages: 496
Formats: Hardcover, eBook

Lucy Acosta's mother died when she was three. Growing up in a Victorian mansion in the middle of the woods with her cold, distant father, she explored the dark hallways of the estate with her cousin, Margaret. They're inseparable—a family.
When her aunt Penelope, the only mother she's ever known, tragically disappears while walking in the woods surrounding their estate, Lucy finds herself devastated and alone. Margaret has been spending a lot of time in the attic. She claims she can hear her dead mother's voice whispering from the walls. Emotionally shut out by her father, Lucy watches helplessly as her cousin's sanity slowly unravels. But when she begins hearing voices herself, Lucy finds herself confronting an ancient and deadly legacy that has marked the women in her family for generations.

Find it:

Ever since she was little, Amy was especially intrigued by horror books and movies. Raised in a small mountain town in Arizona, she sustained herself on a steady diet of Goosebumps, Fear Street, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books before discovering Stephen King in her mother's bookshelf.
Amy lives with her husband, their two precious squidlings, and an old gentleman cat by the name of Frodo. When she isn't writing, she enjoys cooking, crafting, and playing games across many platforms.

Creepy old mansion with strange, curious people makes the perfect mix for a chilling YA Horror story......

The Women In The Walls is the perfect read for the fall and in preparation for Halloween. The Women In The Walls is intensely creepy, deeply disturbing, and the perfect psychological thriller. The whole setting of the book is dark and mysterious and just when you think you know what is happening....Be ready...because you don't.

and that cover....SERIOUSLY! How creepily awesome is that cover? An old mansion sitting back in the fog with The Women In The Walls written as though it is dripping with blood....Ummmm YES!!!!!!!

Lucy Acosta lives with her family in the Acosta mansion. Her mother passed away at a young age and she has been raised by her father and aunt. She has an cousin named Margaret that also lives with them and Lucy has grown up with her and thinks of her as a sister. Lucy and Margaret have never ventured far from home. Both girls are home-schooled and when they are not doing school work they play within the old mansion or out in the grounds of the land.

"The girl lives in a beautiful dollhouse made of stone, I wrote one time in my diary when I was young, my handwriting shaky but sure. But underneath her shining plastic smile, there are only screams."

One afternoon Lucy watches her Aunt Penelope walk into the woods late at night and never come back. This odd occurrence begins a series of strange events among the Acosta house. From this point on Lucy experiences changes with the people she loves and realizes that something dark and evil is happening within their home.  Lucy must figure out the truth behind what is really going on in her home before it is too late and the evil takes over.....

"Some of us die afraid, my mind whispers, shaky at the knowledge, desperate for release from it. Some of us die in awful, unexpected ways."

The Women In The Walls is not for the faint of heart and at times can be very gruesome and horrifying... I recommend this book to true Horror genre fans who aren't afraid of a little blood and evil apparitions. Amy Lukavics really knows how to dig into the heart of a story and take the reader on a horrific journey that will stay with you long after reading the last page. Her writing is emotional, deep, and yet very thought provoking. I love that her characters all seem to have scars and yet by the end of the story are able to overcome their issues and truly....face ...their...fears.....

Kismet Book Tours, Review & Giveaway: Controlled Burn (Shannon Stacey)

Rick Gullotti lives the good life.
He fights fires, dates beautiful women—though none long enough so they cast wistful glances at jewelry stores—and has great friends. And thanks to helping out the elderly couple who own his building, his rent is low. But when concerns about their health lead him to contact their only son, his life starts getting away from him.
Jessica Broussard has no interest in leaving sunny San Diego or her cushy corner office for Boston, but her father—who happens to be her boss—dispatches her to deal with the grandparents she's never met. She's unprepared for the frigid winter, loving relatives who aren't the monsters she's been led to believe, and the hot, scruffy firefighter who lives upstairs.
At first, Jessica is determined to get back to her comfortable life as quickly as possible. All she has to do is talk her grandparents into selling their monstrosity of a house and moving to a retirement community. But she underestimates Rick's dedication—and his considerable charm. Nobody's taking advantage of his friends on his watch, even if that makes the tempting southern California girl with the long legs his adversary. Unfortunately for them both, the only thing more urgent than the matter at hand is their sizzling chemistry, and it's quickly becoming too strong to resist.

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her two favorite activities are writing stories of happily ever after and riding her four-wheeler. From May to November, the Stacey family spends their weekends on their ATVs, making loads of muddy laundry to keep Shannon busy when she’s not at her computer. She prefers writing to laundry, however, and considers herself lucky she got to be an author when she grew up.

ARC Harper Teen Review: Reign of Shadows (Sophie Jordan)

Reign of Shadows
Hardback Edition, 304 pages
Expected publication: February 9th 2016 by Harper Teen

Seventeen years ago, an eclipse cloaked the kingdom of Relhok in perpetual darkness. In the chaos, an evil chancellor murdered the king and queen and seized their throne. Luna, Relhok’s lost princess, has been hiding in a tower ever since. Luna’s survival depends on the world believing she is dead. But that doesn’t stop Luna from wanting more. When she meets Fowler, a mysterious archer braving the woods outside her tower, Luna is drawn to him despite the risk. When the tower is attacked, Luna and Fowler escape together. But this world of darkness is more treacherous than Luna ever realized. With every threat stacked against them, Luna and Fowler find solace in each other. But with secrets still unspoken between them, falling in love might be their most dangerous journey yet. With lush writing and a star–crossed romance, Reign of Shadows is Sophie Jordan at her best.

Sophie Jordan
Sophie Jordan took her adolescent daydreaming one step further and penned her first historical romance in the back of her high school Spanish class. This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and History.
A brief stint in law school taught her that case law was not nearly as interesting as literature - teaching English seemed the natural recourse. After several years teaching high school students to love Antigone, Sophie resigned with the birth of her first child and decided it was time to pursue the long-held dream of writing.
In less than three years, her first book, Once Upon A Wedding Night, a 2006 Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Nominee for Best First Historical, hit book shelves. Her second novel, Too Wicked To Tame, released in March 2007 with a bang, landing on the USA Today Bestseller's List.

I mean...that cover..SERIOUSLY?? WOW....Of course the first thing that grabbed my attention about this book is the amazing, breathtakingly beautiful cover. I love everything about it... the rich, bold colors just grab the readers attention.

Reign of Shadows is a young adult fantasy with a swoon-worthy romance intertwined into the story. Luna, the princess of Relhok, was saved seventeen years ago when an eclipse caused the entire kingdom to be covered in darkness and an evil chancellor used this as an opportunity to kill Luna's parents, the king and queen of Relhok, and take over the kingdom. Luna was rescued and hidden away in a tower far away from the her kingdom in hopes of surviving and eventually regaining her kingdom.

The eclipse that occurred was permanent and caused "flesh-hungry" creatures that live in the dark to come out and take over the world. Luna is locked away in the tower and can only venture out for short amounts of time because of the creatures and other things that live in the dark. It is one of those times when she is outside the tower walls that she runs into a young man named Fowler... and this is where the story truly begins.....

The dark, creepy world building really fascinated me and the idea that their whole world was cloaked in darkness was very intriguing. I loved learning how the characters survived and have learned to adapt to this new, dark world.

I absolutely loved Luna and Fowler and their love story. Their love blossomed beautifully and really gave the reader time to see their relationship begin.

"Whatever it took, whatever words I had to say, I would make her understand that she didn't have to do this. That we could be together in Allu. We would.

"Let her go," Mirelya murmured as though she could read my thoughts. Maybe the old woman could.

I shook my head. "Never."

"She's trying to do the right thing. Let her go."

Swinging my pack over my shoulder, I passed her and headed for the door, calling back, "She can try all she likes to do the right thing. But so will I."

When I first started reading this book I was not expecting the intense, brutal scenes that occurred...I was expecting a fantasy story but nothing like this...and I really enjoyed it. The harsh reality and ruthless fight scenes really brought out the emotions and helped connect the characters. I am a huge fan of survival stories and this book is ALL about survival and as soon as I figured that out...I was completely engrossed in the story. The beginning was a little slow for me and was really just introducing the characters and the world...but once the survival aspect was introduced....it was a complete "can't put down...turning pages late into the night" kinda book!!!

The only problem I had with this book was the way it ended....The last chapters were so fast-paced and intense and I couldn't wait to read the next page....and then WHAM....major cliff-hanger....and I am NOT a fan of cliff-hangers. I am now absolutely dying to get my hands on the sequel and have no idea how I will wait so long.......

Feiwel & Friends ARC Review & Interview: The Detour (S.A. Boden)

The DetourHardcover, 224 pages
Expected publication: October 6th 2015 by Feiwel & Friends

On her way to a writer’s conference, a bestselling teenage author takes a detour that has been deliberately set up by her biggest fans—a mother and daughter who kidnap her.
Livvy Flynn is a big deal—she’s a New York Times-bestselling author whose YA fiction has sold all over the world. She’s rich, she’s famous, she’s gorgeous, and she’s full of herself.
When she’s invited to an A-list writer’s conference, she decides to accept so she can have some time to herself. She’s on a tight deadline for her next book, and she has no intention of socializing with the other industry people at the conference.

And then she hits the detour. Before she knows it, her brand new car is wrecked, she’s hurt, and she’s tied to a bed in a nondescript shack in the middle of nowhere. A woman and her apparently manic daughter have kidnapped her. And they have no intention of letting her go.

S.A. Bodeen

Stephanie is the award-winning author of the Elizabeti's Doll series of picture books, as well as several others. Her young adult novels include the award-winning The Compound and The Raft, and her next YA The Detour releases October 2015. The first two volumes of her middle grade series, Shipwreck Island and Lost, are available now.

1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
It was a combination of the state of social media, as well as a slew of young writers getting big book deals. I began to muse about the two and how they could intersect in a not-so-nice way…

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?
Although she scares me, I rather like Flute Girl.

3. Which came first, the title or the novel?
Title.

4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
I would give away too much of the story if I answered this…

5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?
Nothing about this business is in my control: Will a publisher buy my manuscript? Will anyone read my book? Will they like it? How many copies will sell? etc. The only thing under my control is whether or not I write today. So I write.

6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?
The curtain on the concrete is so creepy to me. Like a window to nowhere…

7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2015?
I can’t wait to read The Fall by James Preller.

8. What was your favorite book in 2014?
Too hard to choose! I had so many faves. I’ll go with The Martian by Andy Weir.

9. What’s up next for you?
More YA. The next one comes out Fall 2016. And the third book of my Shipwreck Island middle grade series comes out in 2016 as well.

The Detour is about a young author, Livvy, who is headed to a writer's conference when she suddenly has a car accident and needs help. A woman and her young daughter show up at just the right time and Livvy thinks she has been rescued....little does she know..these so called "rescuers" have different intentions in mind....

"She picked up a stick about as thick as a good-sized snake and wielded it like a baseball bat, her fists tightened around it with none of the care she showered on her flute. And before my vision started swimming and I passed out, the last thing I saw was Flute Girl swinging the club straight at my head."

The Detour is a quick, creepy read that is full of tension and just the right amount of suspense. There was always something happening and the amount of mystery was perfect.

How do this women and her daughter know Livvy? How do they know so much about her? What are their reasons behind kidnapping her?? Each twist in the book will have readers turning pages trying to see what will happen next.

The Detour is the perfect book to get into the Halloween spirit...If you are looking for a quick yet suspenseful book then you should definitely check this out! I really enjoyed it!!

Review: The Creeping (Alexandra Sirowy)

The CreepingHardcover, 400 pages
Published August 18th 2015 by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Eleven years ago, Stella and Jeanie disappeared. Stella came back. Jeanie never did.
Now all she wants is a summer full of cove days, friends, and her gorgeous crush—until a fresh corpse leads Stella down a path of ancient evil and secrets.
Stella believes remembering what happened to Jeanie will save her. It won’t.
She used to know better than to believe in what slinks through the shadows. Not anymore.

Alexandra Sirowy was born in Northern California and grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and the San Francisco Bay Area. "If you look for monsters....you'll find them...."

So I will have to admit...the first thing that grabbed my attention about this book....was the cover. I mean seriously....what an amazingly creepy and yet utterly gorgeous cover!!! Everything from the way the letters of the title are placed to the deep blue color and the spooky young girl in the tree ....fit the book perfectly. I immediately added The Creeping to my To Be Read list and waited impatiently for it to arrive.....

The Creeping is a story about the mystery surrounding young Jeanie's disappearance. Jeanie and Stella were out picking strawberry's one day and suddenly Jeanie disappeared and Stella returned but with no memory of what happened.

The story then picks up eleven years later when Stella is in high school and a young girl gets murdered and it brings up all the memories and questions of Jeanie's disappearance. Stella begins to question everything and everyone she knows. She is so confused on who to trust and who her true friends are.

The Creeping is so full of twists and turns that you never know what is going to happen. The scenery is so spooky and Stella always seems to find the creepiest places to visit....I loved the atmosphere of the story and not knowing whether the the killer is real or paranormal.... There are so many ghost stories and tales surrounding this small town that perfectly fit the creepiness of this story.

"Fear nips at my heels with every step, and I get the sense that we're being watched, followed, hunted even. The white disk of a moon casts enough light for us to see a few steps ahead, and the bramble on either side is black and impenetrable."

The Creeping is a spooky, creepy mystery with a hint of horror mixed in....and fans of young adult are going to love it!!! With Halloween right around the corner, The Creeping is the perfect late night story to start off the season!!!!

Celebratory Blog Tour & Review: What Pet Should I Get & Mr Brown Can Moo, Can You? (Dr Seuss)

In the Fall of 2013, an original manuscript with accompanying sketches by Dr. Seuss, aka Ted Geisel, was discovered in the La Jolla, California home of the late beloved children’s author. That complete manuscript was for the picture book, WHAT PET SHOULD I GET?, and will be published by Random House Children’s Books on July 28, 2015. It is the first original new Dr. Seuss book since the publication of the last book of Dr. Seuss’s career, Oh, the Places You’ll Go! in 1990. WHAT PET SHOULD I GET? captures the excitement of a classic childhood moment—choosing a pet—and features the brother and sister characters that Dr. Seuss drew in One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

What Pet Should I Get?
Hardcover, 48 pages
Expected publication: July 28th 2015 by Random House Children's Books

A never-before-seen picture book by Dr. Seuss!
This never-ever-before-seen picture book by Dr. Seuss about making up one’s mind is the literary equivalent of buried treasure! What happens when a brother and sister visit a pet store to pick a pet? Naturally, they can’t choose just one! The tale captures a classic childhood moment — choosing a pet — and uses it to illuminate a life lesson: that it is hard to make up your mind, but sometimes you just have to do it!
Told in Dr. Seuss’s signature rhyming style, this is a must-have for Seuss fans and book collectors, and a perfect choice for the holidays, birthdays, and happy occasions of all kinds.
An Editor’s Note at the end discusses Dr. Seuss’s creative process, his interest in animals, and Seussian creatures throughout his work.

Dr. Seuss

Theodor “Seuss” Geisel is one of the most beloved children’s book authors of all time. His long list of awards includes Caldecott Honors for McElligot’s Pool, If I Ran the Zoo, and Bartholomew and the Oobleck, the Pulitzer Prize, and eight honorary doctorates. Works based on his original stories have won three Oscars, three Emmys, three Grammys and a Peabody. Geisel wrote and illustrated 45 books during his lifetime, and his books have sold more than 650 million copies worldwide. Though Theodor Geisel died on September 24, 1991, Dr. Seuss lives on, inspiring generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading. "Oh, the wonderful things
Mr Brown can do!
He can go like a cow.
He can go Moo Moo.
Mr Brown can do it.
How about you?"

Dr Seuss has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a child my Mom read me Dr Seuss all the time and then when I became a Mom I continued reading Dr Seuss to my child.

Mr Brown Can Moo, Can You? Is one of my favorites! It is beautifully illustrated with bright colors that engage a child's attention and keeps them focused on each page. I love that there are so many different animal sounds that children can mimic and learn to associate the sounds with the animals.

When I heard there would be a blog tour for a new unpublished book by Dr Seuss....I was completely honored to be asked to join the tour. Dr Seuss's writing is rhythmic and catchy and his characters are funny and bright and inspiring to children. I hope everyone checks out this new book and helps spread the news about Dr Seuss and his phenomenal writing!!!!

NAL ARC Review: The Bourbon Kings (J.R. Ward)

The Bourbon Kings (The Bourbon Kings, #1)Hardback, 400 pages
Expected publication: July 28th 2015 by NAL

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood delivers the first novel in an enthralling new series set amid the shifting dynamics of a Southern family defined by wealth and privilege—and compromised by secrets, deceit, and scandal....

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.
For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.
As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

J.R. Ward is a #1 New York Times and USAToday Best Selling author of erotic paranormal romance. She lives in the south with her incredibly supportive husband and her beloved golden retriever. After graduating from law school, she began working in healthcare in Boston and spent many years as Chief of Staff of one of the premier academic medical centers in the nation. Writing has always been her passion and her idea of heaven is a whole day of nothing but her computer, her dog and her coffee pot.

"Welcome to the upstairs-downstairs world of Southern money and privilege- where power and passion rule and dark family secrets never stay buried."

Sooooo I am a HUGE fan of J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and have been completely obsessed with her writing for years.....so when I saw she was starting a new series...I KNEW I had to have it......and here comes the BUT......Even though The Bourbon Kings is written by J.R. Ward...it has a completely different feel and overall concept than any of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books. The Bourbon Kings is more of a southern romance about a rich family and all of their deep, dark secrets. The hot and heavy romance and dark concepts that we have come to love when reading the BDB series is not instilled in the book but that does not make it any less awesome......just different.

Now don't get me wrong....I greatly enjoyed this book...but just prepare yourself for an entirely different side of J.R. Ward. The Bourbon Kings is told from several points of view and follows the lives of the children of the Bradford empire: Edward, Max, Gin, and Lane.

Edward is the oldest son and heir of the Bradford bourbon industry but an crippling life event has left him broken and scarred and he has chosen to live his life taking care of horses and drinking his pain away.

Lane is the "playboy" of the family and is tired of his old ways and comes back home in order to make amends and try and start his life over. Years before he was in a relationship with the Bradford's gardener, Lizzie, and he ended up breaking her heart and running away. He comes back home determined to win Lizzie back and to right the wrongs that he started.

Gin is the "black sheep" of the family...She is the spoiled, rich girl who is partying her life away and living off Daddy's money. Gin has a strange relationship with a man named Samuel T that she has basically been in love with her entire life.......

There is so much going on in this book and at times it was hard to keep up. I found myself re-reading some chapters just to make sure I didn't miss anything. The book felt more like a prequel or a "set-up" to explain all the back-stories and past lives of the Bradford family in order to get the reader prepared for the stories that are to come.....

I am not sure I have ever read a book with so many secrets and scandals.....I have no idea what kind of twists will follow in the next books....especially with all the secrets that were revealed in this book!!!! How many more can there be???

Fans of Adult Romance, Family Saga stories, and contemporary adult will love this book and will enjoy the different, deeper side of J.R. Ward's writing.... Being from the South, I also enjoyed all the Southern aspects and traditions that J.R. Ward instilled into The Bourbon Kings.
