Kismet Book Tours Blog Tour, Interview, & Giveaway: At The Brink (Anna Del Mar)

Add on Goodreads
Release: May 2nd 2016 by Carina Press

A Story of Sexual Obsession

Lily: I should never have agreed to it. A woman will do a lot to keep her husband happy. But when my husband sells me to the highest bidder—billionaire, former Navy SEAL, pride of Boston’s business scene—I agree, not to keep him happy but because it gives me the chance to finally escape. Escape my marriage, escape my debts, escape my life …
Josh Lane demands a steep price: my pride and my morals. But the truth is, I’ve never felt anything like what I feel for him. He brings color into my gray world. And his insistence that I submit to his commands—his depraved, filthy, amazing commands—only feeds my craving to be taken by him. Again. And again. I should never have agreed to it, but I’m so glad I did.
Josh: I don’t need to pay to keep women in my bed. Though my preferences may be unorthodox, I never leave a woman unsatisfied—far from it. Lily Boswell, though … her innocence draws me, her secrets intrigue me. Having her is worth dealing with her cowardly scum of a husband.

I want to release her passions and heal her wounds .On my terms. Because the blindfolds and restraints hide more than she could imagine. I must keep her safe from the people who would destroy me—and the demons that haunt my dreams.

Q: Who is your favorite character in the book?

Josh Lane, for sure. He’s the hero of At the Brink, a decorated war hero and former SEAL turned successful entrepreneur. Josh is blunt, ruthless, intense and exacting; a workaholic driven by internal demons, a man who doesn't play games, except in bed, of course, where he is always in control. When he meets Lily Boswell, a talented but stifled artist trapped in a dangerous situation, he devises a sexual agreement that explores their most primal erotic cravings, the only chance he might have to protect Lily and banish the demons that haunt his dreams.

From the beginning, Josh is the ultimate alpha, succesful, confident, strong and super-sexy. But there’s so much more than brawn to him. We get to learn a lot about Josh as the story develops. With each chapter we realize the strentgh and weakness hidden beneath his gorgeous, carefully constructed facade. We learn how Josh‘s smarts match his brawn, how his toughness contrasts with his generosity. We discover the engine that powers his indominable drive and his passion. There are twists and I won’t give those up, but I’ll say this: When the last page is turned, we understand the makings of a hero like no other.

Q: Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel came first. The title I penned as a sentence somewhere in the last few chapters. Hmm. I wonder if there’s a clever reader out there who caught the exact moment in which the words became the title.

Q: What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

I have to say, I’m really proud of the entire novel. I took my time with At the Brink, in the hopes of offering the reader a full story, a total escape. At the Brink is a fun, sexy read, but it’s also a carefully crafted tale that begins by evoking familiar settings and then takes off in an original and deeply erotic journey where we share in the delicious discoveries that lend sex meaning and love context.

Having said that, I’ll admit to being particularly proud of three scenes, mostly because how they came about. You see, back when I was “auditioning” for Carina Press, I got a request from the editors considering my submission. Requests like these are not unusual at Carina, as they’ve built their reputation by carefully selecting their authors. The editors wanted to see three new scenes added to the original manuscript. So I wrote, fast and furious. It must have worked, because here we are, celebrating At the Brink’s release.

Curious about those scenes? Three hints: One scene involves a custom “active sex” piece of furniture. Another scene has to do with bunk beds. Lots of bunk beds. The third scene is very artistic. It involves paint. Body paint.

Q: What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I love the cover of At the Brink. I love everything about it, the background, the city lights sparkling in the night, and the colors, the way the yellow and blue contrast against the dark background. But let’s be real. Who are we kidding? I love the guy on the cover most. When I first got the cover concept, I actually gasped. I wondered if the folks at Carina Press had somehow extracted him from my brain. He is Josh Lane in all his glory and he’s dressed for trouble.

Q: What’s up next for Anna del Mar?

I’m keeping busy with a four releases scheduled for 2016. At the Brink marks my second release this year, coming on the heels of The Asset, book one of my Wounded Warrior series, a collection of romantic suspense novels about strong heroines struggling to find their place in the world and the brave, sexy, kickass, military heroes who challenge their limits to protect the women they love.

The Stranger, book two of the series is coming out in August. It’s about Summer Silva, a warmth loving Miami architect who comes to Alaska chasing after her missing sister only to find herself stranded in the Alaskan wilderness and in danger from more than the elements. Only a mysterious, sexy stranger, an Alaskan scion and an ex-military pilot fighting his own demons who has no time for a lady in distress—let alone one who gets into trouble when she sleepwalks—can protect Summer from murder, treason and Alaska’s ruthless winter.

Character Interview:

An Interview with Ash Hunter, the SEAL hero from Anna del Mar’s new romance, The Asset.

We’re thrilled to have here today Major Ash Hunter, a Navy SEAL currently on medical leave, born and bred in the Rocky Mountain town of Copperhill, Colorado. Ash is the hero in The Asset, Anna del Mar’s new romantic suspense novel. He’s here with service dog, a sable German shepherd called Neil, such a handsome boy. Ash, is it my imagination or do you look kind of uncomfortable at the moment?

I’m not much for words. Neil and I, we don’t like people a lot these days. I’m only doing this for Lia.

You mean Lia Stuart, your co-protagonist in The Asset?

Yes. Lia is wary of strangers so she asked for an assist. I can’t say no to Lia. And please, don’t ask about my prior missions or what I did during my time in Afghanistan. That’s classified.

How did you and Lia meet?

When Lia and I met, she was hiding in Copperhill, pretending to be someone else, running away from the drug lord who’d terrorized her life. She didn’t want any attention and neither did I. I was just out of the hospital. Well, technically speaking, I hadn’t been discharged yet, but I had to get the hell out of there.

What was wrong with you?

I was wounded in Afghanistan. I’d been at that hospital for weeks on end. I was done with hospitals and doctors. So I went home, to the old lakeside cottage, where I could be alone and get my head on straight. And there she was. Lia. Aiming a loaded shotgun at me. Hiding. Pretending. Jumping three feet high when anybody approached the cottage. I knew she kept secrets right away.

You were lucky she didn’t shoot you on the spot.

I’ve got Neil to thank for that. Lia would never hurt an animal. Never. She loves animals and she adores those rescue animals of hers.

So what happened next?

I threw up in Lia’s kitchen, that’s what happened next. I was sick and not in my best state of mind. It was really touch and go for a while. Lia was frightened. God knows, looking back, she had some very good reasons to be frightened, of strangers, of me. That’s why she welcomed me with a shotgun.

But the girl’s got guts. When she figured out who I was and what was wrong with me, she took me in, even if she risked her cover—and her life—to do so. She vouched for me when the Marines came looking, then devoted herself to making sure I got better. It takes a special person to do all that for a stranger.

Sounds like you have a lot of admiration for Lia.

She’s the hero of this story and, for a guy who was in bad shape, she became my number one asset.

What do you believe are Lia’s strongest traits?

She’s brave. She’s all heart and guts. After everything she’s gone through, she’s resilient as hell. She’s gorgeous, resourceful, self-reliant, smart and loyal. Oh, and she’s funny too.

Sounds like she ticks all your boxes.

Affirmative. That she does.

Worse trait?

She doesn’t trust people. She’s skittish, especially if she doesn’t know you, and she’s used to keeping secrets.

What about you? What are your strongest traits as a hero?

I really hate it when people call me a hero. Most SEALs do. I mean, we go out there every day and we do our job. That’s not being a hero. That’s performing up to standard.

When did you start to fall in love with Lia?

If you really have to know, I thought Lia was hot from day one, even if the first time I saw her she was wearing her pajamas and pointing a loaded gun at me. But it was the way she watched my six that got me, how she risked her own safety to care for me. In a firefight, you want someone like her watching your back.

At what point of the book did you start getting nervous about the way it was going to turn out?

I was at DEFCOM 5 the entire time. Once I figured out Lia’s secret, I understood the full scope of the danger. I decided it was time to pay my rent and take care of business.

How did you go about taking care of “business?”

I engineered the mission, brought on the guys, watched and waited. There were many operational challenges. I worried about Lia’s self-reliance. She wasn’t used to being part of a team. Lia wanted to protect everyone in her life, including me. I worried that, no matter how hard I tried to protect her, she was going to get hurt.

How do you feel about the ending of the book?

I feel Goddamn lucky, that’s how. I swear, the last few scenes about killed me.

Will we be seeing more of you in the future?

I don’t know about that, but you’ll be reading about some of my friends in Anna del Mar’s Wounded Warrior series, guys who deserve the hoopla.

Really? Like who?

Like Seth Erickson, for example. He‘s protagonist of The Stranger, book two of the Wounded Warrior series due out August 2016. Seth’s the kind of hero you’re looking for, a legendary helicopter pilot and an Alaskan tycoon who met his match when he ran into Miami native, sun-loving Summer Silva. Talk about a hero. That’s a story you might want to hear.

Great. I can’t wait to meet Seth Erickson and Summer Silva in The Stranger. Give my regards to Lia and thank you for this interview, Ash.

Thank you. Come on, Neil. Let’s get the hell out of here.

About Carol Ericson:

Romance Just Ain’t a Romance without a Few Dead Bodies
+FREE read!
a guest post by romantic suspense author Carol Ericson

I think I must have a morbid turn of mind. The first romances I read at about age thirteen were the old Gothic romances told in the heroine’s point of view, in which she generally suspected the “hero” of trying to kill her. Sounds romantic, huh? Of course, after reading a few of these books, I eventually figured out the brooding, enigmatic hero wasn’t really trying to kill the heroine, but it made for some delicious thrills and chills. Those Gothic romances also included some mystery—a lost jewel, a “ghost” in the chapel, a missing governess—and were oh, so atmospheric. So, when I started writing romance, I naturally gravitated to romantic-suspense. A romance just ain’t a romance without a few dead bodies, a creepy stalker, or a terrorist or two.

Outside of my fiction reading and writing, I’m also fascinated by real-life stories of murder and mayhem. I discovered true crime when I read The Stranger Beside Me, Ann Rule’s book about Ted Bundy, the serial killer she knew personally before she knew he was a murderer. As disturbing as the story was, I became hooked on true crime and read several other Ann Rule books, along with true crime books by Joe McGinnis and of course, Vincent Bugliosi’s book, Helter Skelter, about the Charlie Manson murders.

In fact, that case is what got me reading the newspaper for the first time. I’m not sure what my parents thought about my picking up the front page of the newspaper, instead of the comics, and devouring it. Had they known I was reading articles about the gruesome murders that had taken place in Los Angeles, I’m sure they would’ve started giving me odd looks. Several years after the murders, I was at UCLA and a friend of mine in my dorm offered to take me to the Tate-Polanski house on Cielo Drive. So, I hopped on the back of his motorcycle and we climbed the winding roads of Benedict Canyon until we stopped on the street outside the gates to the house. Such a creepy feeling came over me that I urged my friend to go, go, GO!

The most recent true crime case that caught my attention was that of Robert Durst, the son of a wealthy real estate tycoon and the subject of the award-winning documentary The Jinx. This story has so many weird twists and turns, it’s almost unbelievable. At the core of the story is a complex, compelling, most likely evil human being, and perhaps that’s why I find true crime stories so interesting. In the end, they are psychological dramas, human puzzles and fascinating glimpses into a heart of darkness.

I don’t admit my morbid attraction for lurid true crime stories to many people, or at least I don’t call it a morbid attraction, but my interest in the dark side of human nature and the dark deeds that result from it seep into my own stories. Because a romance just ain’t a romance without a few dead bodies, a creepy stalker, or a terrorist or two.

Kismet Book Tours, Review & Giveaway: Controlled Burn (Shannon Stacey)

Rick Gullotti lives the good life.
He fights fires, dates beautiful women—though none long enough so they cast wistful glances at jewelry stores—and has great friends. And thanks to helping out the elderly couple who own his building, his rent is low. But when concerns about their health lead him to contact their only son, his life starts getting away from him.
Jessica Broussard has no interest in leaving sunny San Diego or her cushy corner office for Boston, but her father—who happens to be her boss—dispatches her to deal with the grandparents she's never met. She's unprepared for the frigid winter, loving relatives who aren't the monsters she's been led to believe, and the hot, scruffy firefighter who lives upstairs.
At first, Jessica is determined to get back to her comfortable life as quickly as possible. All she has to do is talk her grandparents into selling their monstrosity of a house and moving to a retirement community. But she underestimates Rick's dedication—and his considerable charm. Nobody's taking advantage of his friends on his watch, even if that makes the tempting southern California girl with the long legs his adversary. Unfortunately for them both, the only thing more urgent than the matter at hand is their sizzling chemistry, and it's quickly becoming too strong to resist.

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her two favorite activities are writing stories of happily ever after and riding her four-wheeler. From May to November, the Stacey family spends their weekends on their ATVs, making loads of muddy laundry to keep Shannon busy when she’s not at her computer. She prefers writing to laundry, however, and considers herself lucky she got to be an author when she grew up.

didn't i warn you teaser

A Bad for You Novel #1
by
Amber A. Bardan

Not everything dangerous is bad.
From the moment Angelina laid eyes on him, she fell into a fantasy. Mysterious, foreign, gorgeous, Haithem offered her what she needed most—a chance to feel again.
But Haithem is much more than he appears to be. He lives in a world of danger where everything comes at a price.
For Angelina, that price is her future.
He's made sure the life she's left behind is in tatters. Made her family believe she's dead. Still, he talks about protecting her, about keeping her safe, but she can't distinguish his truth from his lies. She can't separate her pleasure from his betrayal.
Haithem warned her. He told her he'd make her heart race, her body come alive and her most primal needs rush to the surface. His for the taking.

He didn't say she'd come to love the devil who's destroying her, even as he keeps her prisoner.

About Didn’t I Warn You:

After spending years imagining fictional adventures, Amber finally found a way to turn daydreaming into a productive habit. She now spends her time in a coffee-fuelled adrenaline haze, writing romance with a thriller edge.
She lives with her husband and children in semi-rural Australia, where if she peers outside at the right moment she might just see a kangaroo bounce by.
