The truth won't always set you free.
Less than a year ago, Neely Ambrose’s biggest worry was having the freedom to follow a path that wasn't chosen for her.
Less than a year ago, she believed she could trust the Elders who said they had everyone’s best interest at heart and who said they were keeping them safe from the outside.
Sixty days ago, she discovered what they had planned for everyone she loved—and that all of it centered around her.Now she’s on the run through a dangerous wasteland full of killing machines, secret organizations, and people who want to sell her back to the Elders for their own safety. The whole world outside the Compound is living proof that everything in Neely’s life was a lie manufactured by the Elders, which may even include the boy she loves.
All Neely wants is the truth, but each new piece of it drives her further from what she thought she knew. With only forty days until everyone she loves falls under the Elders’ mind control, Neely must decipher who to trust, what questions to ask, and how to get one step ahead of the Elders, who will do anything to keep their secrets buried.

Danielle Ellison spent of her childhood reading instead of learning math. It's probably the reason she can't divide without a calculator and has spent her life seeking the next adventure. It's also probably the reason she's had so many different zip codes and jobs.
When she’s not writing, Danielle is usually drinking coffee, fighting her nomadic urges, watching too much TV, or dreaming of the day when she can be British. Danielle is also the author of SALT and STORM, a series about a snarky witch without magic. She has settled in Northern Virginia, for now, but you can always find her on twitter @DanielleEWrites.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

It was never a developed idea—it was a line. At the time I was at work in the border's coffee shop & I was unloading the stock that came in. It was late, toward the end of my shift, and had a bunch of frozen food so I had to get it put away. I heard this line in my head, "There's never enough time," and I kept repeating it. Then I had a second & third line. I stopped putting stuff away to write it down and then it was a paragraph. When I clocked out, I sat in the back & wrote—pages and pages on napkins & receipt tape. It would be a long time before I had the whole plot but that was the first moment, first line, first scene I wrote. I guess that’s inspiration, so to speak, since the whole book is a race against time.

Who is your favorite character in the book?

I love them all! I can't pick one as my favorite, but I will say Neely holds a special place in my heart. She is like this part of my soul because we've been together for so long that she's ingrained in me & I can tap into her at any moment, yet she's still always surprising me.

Which came first, the title or the novel?

They both changed. I rewrote this book 8 times before I sold it. In my first 4-5 drafts the title was SILHOUETTES—then the changed title changed to FMTD. The story still changed 3-4 more times…so I guess technically the title.

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

The scene I wrote that very first day is my favorite scene—partially because it's the only one that survived every draft with little to no alteration at all. That is such a pivotal moment for me personally because it l changed my life in so many ways.

Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

I’ve narrowed it down to three things. I know you said one, but they all pretty much go together. Those three things are how to handle criticism, the value of a support system, and the belief in what you’re doing.

It comes down to this: everyone will have an opinion. On your book, on what you should’ve done (or not done), on if they like it or not, on how you can improve, on how you should tweet or not tweet, or what your website should look like…the list goes on and on. Criticism will come at you from every different direction, and you have to be able to take it. That's why surrounding yourself with positivity and with people who believe in you, support you and will have your back no matter what is important. To that end, it’s also imperative that you know why you are writing and believe in yourself, in your story, and keep writing stories that you believe in.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

Everything! I told my designer when we were planning that the most important thing to me was that the book felt a certain way—that when you look at it you get a feeling. She accomplished that. It's everything I wanted and didn't know I wanted all at the same time.

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2015?

P.S. I Still Love You, which is the sequel of To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han—and a bunch of other sequels! I'm also excited for More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera.

What was your favorite book in 2014?

The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski—if you haven't read it then you need to. Everything about is perfection. I also loved Isla & the Happily Ever After, which was such a great ending to the series and well worth the wait.

 What’s up next for you?

I've been waiting for this for so long that I've never had to think beyond October! The rest of the trilogy needs to be finished, but my agent & I are revising a project right now and I have a few things up my sleeve. Aside from that I'm in grad school & planning NoVa TEEN Book Festival, so staying busy!

Selina Bodur was born and raised in Bulgaria, but currently she lives in the UK. Over thirty, dark-haired, and a little overweight ordinary woman, that’s her. She was constantly in the search of who she wants to be - learning to play an accordion, singing, and painting. But becoming a writer was always a childhood dream of hers. Even when she was very young her imagination had been running wild. Selina preferred to create worlds instead to live in the real one. As a teenager she ventured into poetry, and published few of her poems and couple of short stories. She loved to pour her heart out on the pages, covered in tears. She had to grow up and pushed her writing dream in the deepest and dustiest corner of her mind.
After years spent in searching for the right carrier and blindly jumping from hotel management to waiting on tables she ended up in the Car Valet and Cleaning Business, 3000 kilometers away from her home country Bulgaria. On the bright side, one thing had been born from the lack of social life, the homesickness, and the many hours spent in front of the computer—she began writing again.
In 2013 she released her debut novella “Fighting the Impossible”, followed by the poetry collection “The Death of the Rose”. “Be With Me” series is her next project, and the first installment “Madness or Love” will be out in October 2014.
She still dreams of becoming a full time writer.

Top 5 Scariest Scenes

If you’ve read any of my books, you know that I cannot stay away from suspense and horror. I find myself adding in “scary” scenes to my erotica and romance, even. I’m a horror addict and fear junkie in real life, and I find it so thrilling to seek out the unknown. That being said, it takes a lot to scare me—fictionally. But there are certain scenes that I saw so vividly in my mind while I wrote them they freaked me out. It was hard to pick my favorites, so here are the top five creepiest scenes I’ve written:

5.)  Anora looks for Pricolici in UNBOUND. This freaked me out because the setting of the barn in Unbound is based off of a barn I know in real life so it is very vivid in my mind. And I really feel for Anora in this scene. She’s scared but wants revenge, and is trying to stop the demons before they hurt anyone else. Her heart is in the right place, but that won’t keep her safe. There is something super scary about being in the woods at night on its own, so when you throw in a storm and demons who want to kill you, it gets downright terrifying.

“A low growl came from a few feet to my left. Heart racing, I whirled around but couldn’t see anything through the dark trees. Another growl, this one low and taunting, drifted through a dark tangle of weeds right in front of me. Coming here alone was a stupid idea, I realized. I slowly turned to face my insidious enemy.”

4.)  The first chapter in REAPER. This freaks me out because your house is supposed to be safe. When creepy things start happening inside your home, then you feel like nowhere is safe. In this scene, Anora is home alone, which can freak you out anyway, and she can’t decipher what is real or what isn’t. The thought of not knowing if I was dealing with reality or not freaks me out so much. Even waking up groggy and out of it messes with my head. Is this a dream? A nightmare? Or real life?

A familiar creaking made my blood run cold. I dropped my shirt and sprinted out of the kitchen. The front door was slowly opening. My body slammed against it, expecting something to resist. The door easily shut. With shaking hands, I locked the deadbolt. I knew that I had locked the door. I had even checked more than once.

3.)  Orissa fighting crazies in the dark, hospital basement in CONTAGIOUS. I think it says it all right there: crazies, dark, and hospital basement. And I won’t lie; I was very jumpy when writing this scene! This is one of the first times Orissa faces the infected, and the first time the victims of their carnage were people she cared about. Not only is snaking through a maze-like basement creepy enough, but Orissa has to do so while the reality of what is happen crashes down on her.

Misjudging his strength, I tried to counter his jump with my own weight. He slammed into me, whacking me against the wall. My head hit hard, sending black, sharp pain throughout my body. My legs threatened to buckle. The crazy opened his mouth, set on ripping his teeth into my flesh. Letting my knees give out was actually a good idea. I slid down the wall, darted in between his legs, got back on my feet and, kicked him into the wall in seconds. Padraic outstretched his hand, holding a broken brick. I took it, and, closing my eyes, brought it down on the crazy’s head. The brick fell out of my grip. It sickened me; the crack of his head, the way he still growled as his blood gushed out.

2.)  The scene from The Truth is Contagious when the guys go into a nursing home. Orissa and friends realize that the crazies are smarter than they thought…and that makes them even more dangerous. The whole scene is full of action and unexpected attacks. Orissa is separated from her friends. Being alone and not knowing the fate of those you care about definitely freaks me out!

I woke up to a throbbing pain in my head. The ground was cold and hard beneath me. I was propped up against a post, my hands bound behind my back. Right away I knew the quiver had been taken, and I was sure I had been hit in the head. Dim light flickered from the hall and the hum of the fluorescent bulbs was sure to give me an instant headache. I looked down: the gun and my knife were also gone.

1.)  Despite all the horror, the monsters, and the worst-case-scenarios I put my characters through in the Contagium Series and the Guardian Legacies Series, nothing freaks me out more than my realistic dark romance, STAY. This book is about human trafficking, which sets it apart from demons and zombies.
The monsters in STAY are real. Trafficked victims are real. Being kidnapped can happen. The realism of this book shakes me to my very core. I did not write this book intending on it to be horror-ish in any way. But knowing that the horrible things that happen to Adeline can happen to anyone is scarier than any monster I could ever create.
Something slammed shut above me, clicking into place. The noise brought me back to consciousness, waking me up into an instant panic. My eyes flew open and my breath came out in ragged huffs. I was lying on my side, and it was dark. Too dark to see anything. My heart hammered with fear, and I felt like I was going to get sick. Beads of sweat rolled down my face and the hard surface I was lying on hurt my hip. Where the hell was I? What was going on? Rough carpet rubbed against my cheek, irritating my skin. I reached up above me, stretching my stiff arm. My hand hit the ceiling. I pressed my palm against it. It was solid. I pushed, straining my muscles. The air was hot and stale. No. This wasn’t happening, it couldn’t be happening. This isn’t real, I told myself. I was in the trunk of a car.

5 Star ARC Review: Salt & Stone (Victoria Scott) published by Scholastic Press

Salt & Stone (Fire & Flood, #2)Hardcover, 320 pages
Expected publication: February 24th 2015
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Author: Victoria Scott

What would you do to save someone you love?
In FIRE & FLOOD, Tella Holloway faced a dangerous trek through the jungle and across the desert, all to remain a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed for a chance at obtaining the Cure for her brother. She can't quit--she has to win the race, save Cody, and then fight to make sure the race stops before it can claim any more lives. In the next legs of the race, across the ocean and over mountains, Tella will face frostbite, sharks, avalanche, and twisted new rules in the race.
But what if the danger is deeper than that? How do you know who to trust when everyone's keeping secrets? What do you do when the person you'd relied on most suddenly isn't there for support? How do you weigh one life against another?
The race is coming to an end, and Tella is running out of time, resources, and strength. At the start of the race there were one hundred twenty-two Contenders. As Tella and her remaining friends start the final part of the race, just forty-one are left--and only one can win.

What would you do to save someone you love?
What about risking....
EVERYTHING?

Fire & Flood was one of my favorite books of 2014. I had been looking for another good YA survival novel and wanted something that grabbed my attention like Hunger Games did. So when I picked up Fire & Flood and started reading it....I was totally OBSESSED!!!! (and how about that cover?? Is that not a beautiful, gorgeous cover..AHH!!!!)

Where do I start?.....When you begin a second book you always wonder if its going to be as good as the first or if it is just going to connect the first and prepare you for the 3rd?? Well i got my answer....Salt & Stone is in a whole league of its own...It is just as good as the first...maybe even better. It explores the deeper emotional aspects of the characters while adding even more intense action scenes. Fire & Flood was all about the contenders surviving in the desert and the jungle and Salt & Stone puts the contenders in the ocean and an arctic climate.  I thought for sure that the jungle climate would be the most cruel and dire of all the climates they would face....but I was so wrong.....

"The Brimstone Bleed covers four eco-systems: jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain. Or mountain, then ocean. Two we've completed; two remain. We're halfway. Hoorah! Victory dance."

The main character Tella is a phenomenal, intense, and strong character. She is competing in the Brimstone Bleed to get the cure for her dying brother. She is a heroine that everyone will love. She is strong, passionate, and determined. My favorite aspect of her character is how she treats the Pandora's with so much care and respect. She treats them as though they are humans and have all the same emotions and struggles that the contenders do.

I am a huge lover of animals so for Victoria Scott to introduce the "Pandora" aspect into her story and make each of them so unique and unforgettable is what makes this series so special and phenomenal. Tella's Pandora, Madox, had my heart from the beginning. Each of the pandora's have a special ability and I love how Victoria Scott introduces those abilities. Each time a new Pandora is introduced the reader is immediately wondering what their ability is....and only when you least expect it....is when their ability will be revealed. I love that about Victoria's writing....The reader will just be so engrossed in the story and then WHAM she hits you with a twist that will make your jaw drop.....

This series is unlike any other I have ever read. Salt & Stone is not only full of non-stop action and incredible suspense but breath-taking emotions that will take hold of your heart and never let go. The way Victoria writes each character makes them each one unique and special. Even when a character is introduced that at first you feel like you can't stand....by the next chapter you will feel totally different....

"Mostly, I remember the way I was before I became a Contender. Competing in this race is like becoming a drug addict. One small slip leads to another, and before you know it, you find yourself in an impossible situation and can't fathom how your life has spiraled so far from what it was."

There is just so much I want to say about this phenomenal incredible book and  so many twists that are introduced into this story. Salt and Storm is an survival story full of gripping adventure, breath-taking romance, and non-stop action....readers will be turning pages deep into the night just to see what will happen next.

"I fall asleep this way, entangled in his embrace, entranced by this person I have no future with. It's then, as I drift into oblivion, that I realize--the Brimstone Bleed breaks much more than our spirits."

I don't want to give away anything that may spoil this book for the readers but just know that "if" you have read Fire & Flood.....forget everything you know...because Salt & Storm is going to take you for a wild, emotion-filled, intense ride unlike anything you have read before!!!!!!!!!!!!! Usually sequels are not better than their predecessor.....this one is!!!!!! Victoria Scott....i am in awe of you and your amazing writing skills....I literally cannot wait to read the conclusion to my most favorite series ever....

The Darkest Part of the Forest
Children can have a cruel, absolute sense of justice. Children can kill a monster and feel quite proud of themselves. A girl can look at her brother and believe they’re destined to be a knight and a bard who battle evil. She can believe she’s found the thing she’s been made for.
Hazel lives with her brother, Ben, in the strange town of Fairfold where humans and fae exist side by side. The faeries’ seemingly harmless magic attracts tourists, but Hazel knows how dangerous they can be, and she knows how to stop them. Or she did, once.
At the center of it all, there is a glass coffin in the woods. It rests right on the ground and in it sleeps a boy with horns on his head and ears as pointed as knives. Hazel and Ben were both in love with him as children. The boy has slept there for generations, never waking.
Until one day, he does…
As the world turns upside down, Hazel tries to remember her years pretending to be a knight. But swept up in new love, shifting loyalties, and the fresh sting of betrayal, will it be enough?

Teaser
page 3

" Hazel kissed boys for all kinds of reasons--because they were cute, because she was a little drunk, because she was bored, because they let her, because it was fun, because they looked lonely, because it blotted out her fears for a while, because she wasn't sure how many kisses she had left. But she'd kissed only one boy who really belonged to someone else and under no circumstances would she ever do it again. "
