When Alaina stumbles into a world that she only thought existed in her mind, she is understandably a little bit freaked out. Who wouldn't be? Characters that she had written down years ago are walking, and talking, and telling her that she is the only one who can save the princess and the kingdom of Isleen. Um...okay. As she travels down to the southern kingdom with Sir Gabriel, a really hot knight, she falls off horses, has an interaction with an evil witch, gets attacked by a sea creature, and even falls from lust into love.

Alaina waited, watching as the dark haired man walked under the window; heading towards the southern part of the castle. She could barely make out anything, with only a few torches outside illuminating the trees. She spied the fields off in the distance, the same fields that she had arrived in. If she could just get there, then there should be a path that would lead to home, she reasoned.
She shut her eyes, and jumped. Alaina let out a silent scream as her bare feet slammed hard onto the rocky surface. She pushed herself up off the ground, and started to run.
“Alaina! Alaina!”
She ignored him, pressing on down the hill. Alaina turned around momentarily just before she was knocked down. “Let me go!” she shouted.
“What were you doing?” he asked, his accent a tad thicker than the one she heard Astra and Peter speak in.
She struggled to push against him. “How do you know my name?” she asked.
“They told me.” He slid off her, and helped her up. “What are you doing?”
She sniffed, and wiped at her nose. “I'm leaving. I'm going home.”
“Do you know how many dangers lie out there? You could get eaten by a bear, there could be trolls hiding amongst the trees!” He grinned. “Okay, maybe not trolls but brownies could-
“Shut up!” Alaina yelled.
“Okay, okay.” He held his arms out. “Look, I think you need to talk to the King and Queen, they-”
“Nobody will tell me anything!” Alaina shouted. “I keep thinking that I must be going mad, I keep expecting to see people ready to carry me off.”
“Nobody's going to carry you off.”
She stared at him. She noticed that he was the same height as Peter; his limbs long. He had hair so dark it seemed black, and it rested just above his shoulders. His eyes were equally as dark, and his jaw was lined with scruff.
“What's your name?” she asked.
“Gabriel.” He gave her a small smile, revealing his dimples. “My name is Gabriel.”
A graduate of Hollins University in southwestern Virginia, Rebecca now lives in the hills of Connecticut with her husband and young son. When she's not working as a librarian or plotting out the sequel, she bakes, dances around the house...and sings...really badly. The Secret World of Alaina Downs is her first book.
