Kiki Sullivan is the author of The Dolls series. Like the main character Eveny Cheval, Kiki used to live in New York and now calls the American South home. Unlike Eveny, she finds it impossible to keep her rose garden alive and has been singlehandedly responsible for the unfortunate demise of countless herbs. She may or may not have hung out with queens of the dark arts, strolled through creepy New Orleans cemeteries at night, or written the first book of this series with a red-headed Louisiana voodoo doll beside her computer.
"Boys want them.
Girls want to be them.
Someone wants them dead."
So the cover of this book just really ROCKS!!! I mean a pair of pink snakeskin stilettos with a jeweled snake running up them....ummm YEAH!!! Just seeing the cover immediately tells me there is going to be lying, deceit, and some crazy rich girls!!!!
Wow! What an intense book! I was hooked from the first page.
The main character of this book, Eveny Cheval, has to move to live with her aunt in Carrefour Louisiana after her mother tragically committed suicide. Eveny assumes she is going back to a normal small town with normal people but when they pull up and her aunt has to use a key to enter the "town" then Eveny immediately knows something is off.
Eveny then meets "The Dolls" who are Peregrine Marceau and Chloe St. Pierre. The Dolls are the most beautiful, respected, popular, and perfect girls in the town. Everyone wants to be them or be around them.
"We can have anything we want. Good grades. Fabulous clothes. Immunity from teachers’ punishments. Control over everything. Lust and love from whatever boys we choose. It’s all ours. Doesn’t that interest you?”
The Dolls bring Eveny into their group and introduce her to parties, boys, and.....secrets. Eveny begins to realize that Carrefour Louisiana is not all its said to be. There is something happening in this town and secrets are everywhere.
Eveny realizes that her mother's tragic suicide and a young girls suicide may not have been suicides after all...... The young girl who committed suicide was seemingly fine and perfect just a few hours before the incident.
There are so many mysteries to uncover and secrets to discover and I definitely had to know what was going on the the little town of Carrfour! I loved how the reader found out the secrets along with Eveny, the main character! Every page I was trying to figure out who was good and who was evil. This one leaves a few questions unanswered so I am really hoping there will be a sequel!!! Kiki Sullivan really knows how to weave a mysterious story that keeps the reader engaged!! I am definitely adding Kiki to my "Authors To Watch" list!!!
