Welcome to my tour stop for One Great Year by Tamara Veitch and Rene Defazio. This is an adult book that has romance, historical fiction, literary fiction, philosophical fiction, fantasy, science fiction and adventure.
The tour runs March 9-20 with reviews, author interviews, excerpts and a few guest posts.
An epic, thought-provoking tale of reincarnation, love, and the struggle of good against evil.
As the world descends from a Golden Age into darkness and brutality, Marcus has been reincarnated an exhausting number of times. Selected to become an Emissary, it is his duty to protect the ancient secrets. His adventure is heightened because he secretly consumes a serum that allows him to have memory from one lifetime to the next. In doing so, he sets himself up for thousands of years of torment, loneliness, and searching.
Desperate to never forget his soulmate, Theron, and never sure if he was truly meant to be an Emissary, Marcus struggles through lifetimes to overcome his cruel and powerful nemesis, Helghul.
Fusing the adventure of Indiana Jones with the introspection and wisdom of Eckhart Tolle, One Great Year takes readers on an epic journey through history, following characters who are born and reborn as they struggle to triumph over evil.
What happens when two passionate writer-artists fall in love and decide to make an uncommon life together? The award-winning novel One Great Year and its forthcoming sequels are just a few of the awesome possibilities!
Born and raised in the Vancouver area, Rene DeFazio is an actor, screenwriter and producer with numerous film and television roles to his credit, as well as countless commercials and print ads. After spending many years backpacking and filming, Rene drew upon an abundance of unusual and exciting experiences to create One Great Year. His tireless research and firsthand knowledge of exotic locations, customs, sights and smells helped to bring this epic story to life.
Tamara Veitch is a writer, artist and mother. She also grew up in the Vancouver area, and attended Simon Fraser University to study English and psychology. Tamara worked as a special education assistant for the Vancouver School Board, and later opened her own mural painting business.
One Great Year took three painstaking years to complete. Within months of its independent release, One Great Year was optioned to become a Hollywood blockbuster film trilogy. Rene and Tamara have also partnered with Greenleaf Book Group for their literary debut and U.S. release, in October 2013.
The authors are currently writing the second and third books in the One Great Year series, filming a documentary, embarking on a book tour, and offering free seminars called POD Parties (Plain ol’ Discussion about monumental topics), where they discuss the ancient history, modern science, and inspirations layered throughout One Great Year.
1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
The original idea for One Great Year was inspired by Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock more than 15 years ago. Rene was backpacking around the world visiting ancient ruins in Egypt, Stonehenge and Indonesia and reading Hancock’s alternative view on history and he was blown away. What if you placed characters into that reality? he thought. That initial fifteen page treatment became our novel many years later.
2. Who is your favorite character in the book?
We would both love to have a beer with the quirky, hilarious supporting character Nate. He is fiercely loyal and is definitely someone we enjoyed creating. We look forward to you all getting to know him better in Book II, to be released later in 2015!
3. Which came first, the title or the novel?
Definitely the novel came first. The title came from an enormous amount of research during which we learned about the Great Year Cycle. The Great year cycle deserves our notice, especially now that history around the world is being rewritten with the discoveries of highly advanced ancient civilizations that predate any we have known about before. There is plenty more information about this in our videos on our media page!
4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
We are most proud of the scene when Marcus and Theron are incarnated in ancient Greece as Plato and Aristotle. We take that philosophical world and we make it accessibleand entertaining. They are talking to one another, and though their philosophies are profound and can be difficult, the reader is never lost or confused in the moment and can identify with the thoughts and ideas of both, truly sense the love and admiration they share. We are equally proud of the Genghis Khan chapters, because we have taken the limited information from the Book of Mongols and filled in the missing years of his extraordinary lifetime.
5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
Research is paramount and if you do the work and allow it to truly flow, synchronicities and helpful information will come.
6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?
We love our book cover, especially the sacred geometry of the flower of life that is encoded throughout. We were also very grateful that two photos from Rene’s world travels were chosen by our publisher to be featured on the cover.
7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2016?
Magicians of the Gods by Graham Hancock. It is the sequel to the book that inspired One Great Year!
8. What was your favorite book in 2015?
We have been reading non-stop in 2015 but almost all of the books have been reference and non-fiction research. We will happily list all of these great works in the bibliography of Book II, but we don’t want to give away too much right now about where Marcus and Theron are headed next!
9. What’s up next for you?
We are currently writing Book II and III in the One Great Year Series. Book II will be released later this year. We are also excited to be working with our Hollywood production team who have purchased the option to develop this epic tale! It will be a big one!
10. Is there anything that you would like to add?
We would like to express our gratitude. We want to thank you and the other bloggers that have taken such a great interest in One Great Year. We would also like to thank our wonderfulreaders, especially all of those who have taken the time to submit reviews! We have been truly blessed to have such an amazing response.
