The ability to magnetize and manipulate metal with the flick of her wrist makes seventeen-year-old Lexi Adams a crack mechanic, but it’s a disaster in the making when her stepdad trades her skills to NASCAR team owner Dean Grant for an entire season’s worth of sponsorship ads.
Now Lexi has no other choice but to suck it up and hope she can keep her magnetic impulses under control—that is, until she runs into NASCAR’s hot new rookie, Colton Tayler.
When Carl Stacy, the ruthless team owner of the defending Cup Champion, discovers Lexi’s secret and plots to use it to ruin Dean’s race team for good, Lexi must either expose her ability to save Colton, risking Dean’s career and her own freedom in the process, or watch the only guy she’s ever fallen for race to his death.

Lucy D. Briand lives in Ottawa, Canada with her comic book fanatic husband and her nonchalant Siamese cat.
By day she works full time as a public servant for the Government of Canada, but by night her creative mind takes over and conjures up young adult gear-head romance stories with supernatural twists.
When not working, reading, writing, or watching way too much TV, Lucy likes to cosplay, attend ComicCons, go on road trips to Walt Disney World, and play ridiculous amounts of board games. She’s a geek to the core but is also a huge NASCAR Cup fan.
Lucy is represented by Brittany Booker Carter of The Booker Albert Literary Agency.
1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
I always loved stories with subtle paranormal twists and I’ve always been fascinated with superhuman abilities and how one deals with being so different. Add my love of X-MEN and NASCAR and my experiences and struggles with fitting in because of my mixed geeky interests and this became a story I just had to write.
2. Who is your favorite character in the book?
My favorite would have to be Colton. He’s everything I’ve ever liked in a guy. Quirky, fun, caring, sensitive which can sometimes make him moody, but he’s also just a simple guy living his dream.
3. Which came first, the title or the novel?’
The idea of the story came first, but before I put any of that idea into words, I toyed with a few play on words for a working title. Magnetic Shift was my favorite and I’m so happy it stuck.
4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
I’d have to say the scene close to the end where Lexi sacrifices everything to save Colton. I can’t say too much about it here without giving out spoilers but I loved writing the emotion behind her decision and her realizations during that moment and the moments following that scene. A lot of those feelings are some I have felt and still feel toward situations in my own life that I channeled into to write that scene.
5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you've learned as a writer from then to now?
I hate first drafts. I hate them with the passion of a million suns…lol
The story is already in my head and I find it boring and time consuming to have to put it down on paper. Revising! Now that’s where I shine. I love to mold the ideas that came from my mind and put life into them, put emotion into them, twist, add and move things around. Yup. I love to revise :)
6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?
What I love most about my cover is the model. I’ve always had a clear picture in my head of what Lexi looked like but could never find and inspiration picture that remotely looked like her until the cover artist gave me a sneak peek at my cover. I was like OMG there she is…that’s her!
7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2016?
To be honest I am not sure…My TBR pile has grown so much in the past few years that I haven’t looked ahead at what is coming. That being said, if I happen to come by a great cover and an enticing blurb you bet I’ll be adding it on my list. One that has stayed on my mind is Veronica Scott’s Titans. Might just have to add that one :)
8. What was your favorite book in 2015?
That one is easy. Invaded by Melissa Landers, hands down :)
9. What’s up next for you?
I am currently revising an untitled “Fast and the Furious” style paranormal romance about a girl who is unbeatable on the quarter mile, but when an apparition starts appearing at the finish line all wheels brake loose.
I’m also planning a MAGNETIC SHIFT spin off but haven’t worked out all the creative kinks yet.
10. Is there anything that you would like to add?
I’d like to thank you for having me on your blog today and being the first stop on my tour. This has been fun and can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday :)
