USA Today Bestselling author Maisey Yates lives in rural Oregon with her three children and her husband, whose chiseled jaw and arresting features continue to make her swoon. She feels the epic trek she takes several times a day from her office to her coffee maker is a true example of her pioneer spirit.
In 2009, at the age of twenty-three Maisey sold her first book. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of sexy alpha males and happily ever afters, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Maisey divides her writing time between dark, passionate category romances  set just about everywhere on earth and light sexy contemporary romances set practically in her back yard. She believes that she clearly has the best job in the world.

Tell us a little about yourself and your books?
I’m Maisey, USA Today Bestselling author of Quite A Few romances. I write dark, emotional books for Harlequin Presents with billionaires, set in exotic locales that I hope make you laugh a little and cry a lot. I also write contemporary romances about cowboys set in my home state of Oregon that I hope make you laugh a lot and cry a little.

Can you give us a brief overview of Brokedown Cowboy?
Connor Garrett has been mired in grief since the deal of his wife a few years ago. When his best friend Liss needs a place to stay, he offers up his house, and in return, she tries to help him get his life in order. But the close proximity throws their relationship out of order. As their friendship heats up, Connor has to decide if he can let go of his grief and move on and into a future with Liss, or if he’ll stay down in the darkness forever.

How did you get the idea for Brokedown Cowboy?
Connor, or at least some versions of him, has been floating around in my head for a while. Since before I came up with the Copper Ridge series, actually. I love a broken hero, and Connor is certainly one of the most broken. I came up with his heroine, Liss, when I started writing Part Time Cowboy. She hit the page and I knew she was the woman for Connor.

What do you most admire about your characters in Brokedown Cowboy?
I admire Liss’s faithfulness. She’s a loyal friend. She’s loved Connor most of her life, but when he got married to someone else, she did her best to put those feelings aside so she could keep him in her life, and hold onto their friendship. When his wife dies, she stays by his side. She’s a true friend, no matter what.

Connor is a hard worker. And when things get tough, he puts his head down and works even harder. He’s grumpy, but he’s there for his family. Like Liss, he’s loyal through and through.

What is your favorite scene in Brokedown Cowboy?
There’s a scene where Connor recreates Liss’s lost prom in the barn…I think it’s super romantic and it made me cry when I wrote it!

Why did you want to become a romance writer? It was reading romance that made me want to write it. I’d always written, but never finished anything. I knew I liked writing, but hadn’t found my passion for it yet. I discovered Harlequin Presents and knew those were the books I wanted to write. That was when vague desire to do something became passion. Those books, those authors, are why I’m writing.

Where do you do writing: I’m fortunate enough to have an office at home with a locking door. Essential when there are children or husbands in the house. I also have a desk cat, who likes to plant herself right in front of my computer monitor. She feels she is my inspiration.

Plotter or Panster? I don’t do official outlines, but I definitely have an idea of the shape of the book. I land somewhere between a plotter and a panster. I’m always willing to let the book take an unexpected turn, but before starting I like an idea of the basic structure of the story, and of the characters.

What are your other passions? I’ve dabbled in a lot of things, and writing is the only one that stuck. But I do a bit with music and I have done a lot of painting and drawing. Right now binge watching Supernatural on Netflix is my passion though.
