and spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Walk on Earth a Stranger (The Gold Seer Trilogy, #1)Hardcover, 432 pages
Expected publication: September 22nd 2015 by Greenwillow Books

The first book in a new trilogy from acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Rae Carson. A young woman with the magical ability to sense the presence of gold must flee her home, taking her on a sweeping and dangerous journey across Gold Rush–era America.
Lee Westfall has a secret. She can sense the presence of gold in the world around her. Veins deep beneath the earth, pebbles in the river, nuggets dug up from the forest floor. The buzz of gold means warmth and life and home—until everything is ripped away by a man who wants to control her. Left with nothing, Lee disguises herself as a boy and takes to the trail across the country. Gold was discovered in California, and where else could such a magical girl find herself, find safety? Rae Carson, author of the acclaimed Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy, dazzles with this new fantasy that subverts both our own history and familiar fantasy tropes.
Walk on Earth a Stranger, the first book in this new trilogy, introduces—as only Rae Carson can—a strong heroine, a perilous road, a fantastical twist, and a slow-burning romance. Includes a map and author’s note on historical research.

ARC Review: Falling Into Place (Amy Zhang)

Falling into PlaceHardback, 304 pages
Expected publication: September 9th 2014 by Greenwillow Books

ARC Provided by Publisher in Exchange for an Honest Review
On the day Liz Emerson tries to die, they had reviewed Newton’s laws of motion in physics class. Then, after school, she put them into practice by running her Mercedes off the road.

Why? Why did Liz Emerson decide that the world would be better off without her? Why did she give up? Vividly told by an unexpected and surprising narrator, this heartbreaking and nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High’s most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn’t understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn’t understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? Amy Zhang’s haunting and universal story will appeal to fans of Lauren Oliver, Gayle Forman, and Jay Asher.

Amy Zhang
Amy Zhang used to have lots of imaginary friends. When people told her to grow up, she turned her imaginary friends into characters and started telling their stories. When she isn't writing, she can be found playing piano, hitting balls on the tennis court, or struggling through her weekly existential crisis. She lives in Wisconsin with her family.

"Sitting on the brown couch, she had imagined her death like this:
She veers off the road and down the hill. Her car slides, spins a few times. She hits her head and is gone. Her body is mostly whole when they find it. They'll take out her organs, and her dead body will be more useful than her living one ever was.
It did not happen like that...."

This book was so emotionally gripping and just a roller-coaster ride of teen experiences. It is a dark, complex, heart-breaking, and yet unbelievably powerful debut novel.  Liz Emerson faces so many issues beginning at childhood all the way through her teen years. She goes through so many unspeakable issues that a young girl should never have to face.

Liz's character is basically the "mean" girl of the school and a bully and it was really hard to try and make myself like her character. Liz is poison to everyone around her and really doesn't care if she has any friends at all.

"Some people died because the world did not deserve them.
Liz Emerson, on the other hand, did not deserve the world."

Falling Into Place is a young adult novel that deals with each and every aspect that a teen could possibly go through while growing up. It deals with bullying, depression, suicide, rape, drugs, sex, and alcohol and shows the consequences of each of these and how they affect the teen and the loved ones around them.

"I watched her carve her mistakes in stone, and they arranged themselves around her. They became a maze with walls that reached the sky. Because she learned from so few of them, she was lost. Because she didn't have faith in anything, she didn't try to find a way out.
I watched her try to face her fears alone, too proud to as for help, too stubborn to admit she was afraid, too small to fight them, too tired to fly away. "

The story is told from several different points of view so you get to see the reactions of different people and how they perceive what is happening around them. I really liked this book and feel like every teen should read this so that they get somewhat of a good view of what can happen when you make bad decisions in life. The fact that this book was written by a young teen girl is just phenomenal. Amy Zhang has a deep understanding of the lives of teens and I feel like she could really make a difference in the future of teens once they have read her amazing debut novel.

Nothing here is just anything. This is not just a house. We have never been simply children. We are Ushers.

First of all I love the cover of this book. It is exactly what I would imagine for a retelling of any Edgar Allen Poe story. It is dark, creepy, and mysterious. I love the image of a young girl walking into the woods on the front. Where is she going? What has happened to her? It immediately makes you want to read the book to determine the answers to these haunting questions.

The Fall is a retelling of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher." I have never actually read The Fall of the House of Usher so to me this was a totally new story. I know that Edgar Allen Poe writes deep, dark, and horrific tales so this is what I was expecting when I started this book.

The book is mainly told from the perspective of the main character, Madeline Usher. Each chapter in the book is written at a different age in Madeline's life. To me this was confusing. It throws the story around and you have to fill in the blanks until you get to the next chapter and I just really didn't like that aspect. I found it hard to keep up with what was going on and at the same time trying to figure out the plot of the story.

"The spirit of the house—the conciousness of it—gets inside our heads. It sees through our eyes and feels what we feel, especially moments of extreme emotion, moments of passion. Or grief. It loves grief."

Madeline and her twin brother Roderick live in a house that is full of secrets and madness. The house basically controls the Usher family and is evil, jealous, and very protective. The house has been cursed for years and from what I could gather the curse is that any young teen that grows up in the house dies at a young age. It is made known very early that Madeline is the "favorite" of the house. She is forced to live in the house and never leave. Roderick escapes and goes off to school and while Madeline is jealous of this part of her wants him to escape and live a normal life.

"Cursed Ushers. Did they manage to keep the house happy?Or did they live their lives in fear? The house rewards cruelty. It loves darkness and despair and death.
....and I am its favorite."

Madeline is left in the cursed home to live amongst Dr's who also live in the home and believe they can cure Madeline and her family. I found this VERY creepy. Poor Madeline is an emotional and mental wreck. I felt so bad for her and found myself urging her to escape.

There are so many horrific events that plague this cursed home and its residents. There were several occurrences that happened that left me in complete shock. Even though the story was very confusing to me...I still could not put the book down. I knew at the turn of each page there would be something shocking happening and was compelled to keep reading.

If you are looking for a suspenseful, mind-boggling, thriller then The Fall by Bethany Griffin is definitely for you....Just be prepared The House of Usher is a psychological thriller that grabs you and never lets go......
