Review: Obsidian (Jennifer Armentrout)

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is....

Wow...Never in a million years did I think that I would become completely obsessed with a love story regarding ALIENS!!!!!!! Boy was I WRONG! This book is completely and utterly fascinating. ON the front of the book it states that "you will not be able to put it down"....well that is a TRUE statement! I found myself turning pages way into the night....This book has it all! Great plot, lots of suspense, an amazing love story, and it is a truly believable story line. This is one of those books that I was so completely involved in that I could believe it to be true. Daimon is breathtaking. He has all the qualities that make him irresistible. He is handsome, strong, protective, fierce, and loves completely. The female character known as "Kitten" to Daimon..(ha) is human but yet there is something about her that links her to Dee and Daimon and the others...She has a kindred feel for them and understands their situations....Again I will not give away any part of the story except to say that if you are wanting to read a great young adult/fantasy story then you will greatly enjoy this.....now on to #2 Onyx.....looks like its gonna be a long night with my book light ;)

I have read Enclave and am on Obsidian so it looks as though at least two of these will be on my "to-read" list next!!!! ;)

Review: Pure (Jennifer Armentrout)

There is need. And then there is Fate
Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.
When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude or killing her.
When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.....

People always assume that "sequels" can never be as good as the first...well in this case..they are so wrong! Pure is just full of amazingness...from intense action, to sadness, to romance....i mean where to begin? well enter Apollyon, Aiden, and Alex (hmmm just noticed they all started with "A's") and a fantastic love triangle...Im not sure who I want to pull for...hmm..the main female character Alex is fascinating..She is determined, strong, and able to face anything that is thrown in her path and let me tell you...there is ALOT...She faces so much hardship and pain and somehow comes out even better...This story is a fantastic addition to the Covenant trilogy and leaves me longing for more...If you want supernatural with none of the blood and gore of zombies and vampires then this is your story...I truly enjoyed it and cant wait for the finale!!

Review: Where We Belong (Emily Griffin)

The author of five blockbuster novels, Emily Giffin, delivers an unforgettable story of two women, the families that make them who they are, and the longing, loyalty and love that binds them together.
Marian Caldwell is a thirty-six year old television producer, living her dream in New York City. With a fulfilling career and satisfying relationship, she has convinced everyone, including herself, that her life is just as she wants it to be. But one night, Marian answers a knock on the door . . . only to find Kirby Rose, an eighteen-year-old girl with a key to a past that Marian thought she had sealed off forever. From the moment Kirby appears on her doorstep, Marian’s perfectly constructed world—and her very identity—will be shaken to its core, resurrecting ghosts and memories of a passionate young love affair that threaten everything that has come to define her.
For the precocious and determined Kirby, the encounter will spur a process of discovery that ushers her across the threshold of adulthood, forcing her to re-evaluate her family and future in a wise and bittersweet light. As the two women embark on a journey to find the one thing missing in their lives, each will come to recognize that where we belong is often where we least expect to find ourselves—a place that we may have willed ourselves to forget, but that the heart remembers forever.

Where to start?

This book is all about following your heart and learning your family...It is all about the process of adoption and the effects it can have on both the parent and the child. The story is well written and I found myself diving into the story...I read the book so quickly just because the interaction between the birth mother and the child was so new and consuming...yet....yes there is a yet....the closing chapters and the ending left me disappointed...I will not give any spoilers and some might have been completely satisfied with the ending but not me...It left me with the feeling that this was not the end...That they have more of the story to tell and yet this is a stand-alone? With that being said...Yes I am glad I read the book and yes I wish I could change a few things...;)

Almost finished....

Read a little more of Obsidian last night...WOW....This book has me completely enthralled....It is sooo not what I was expecting...There is action around every corner and a romance that is breathtaking....I find myself turning pages faster and faster....the whole "alien" aspect is just wild....you would think that it would be hard to understand or comprehend but the way Jennifer writes is just so fantastic that you find yourself completely in the story.....Im not finished quite yet but I have a feeling this one is headed for ***** (five) stars! :):)

Review: The Immortal Rules (Julie Kagawa)

"In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity."Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of "them." The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked--and given the ultimate choice. Die...or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend--a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what--and who--is worth dying for.

hmmm..Ok yes this is a vampire story..I know lots of people have been saying that the vampire stories are getting old. Well let me be the first to say that this story will totally change your views. This is an entirely different type of vampire story. It has more of a hard core edge to it. The genre is still young adult so language is minimal as well as the violence but I think it has just enough to keep the suspense. The main character, Allie, is a strong, determined young girl and you cant help but cheer her on. She is intense and she is serious. She is one of those "you dont mess with" types and I loved it. Julie Kagawa never ceases to amaze me with her writing. This book was great and I am yearning for the 2nd in the series....What an ending..what a story...

Quotes:

“The mighty hunter,” I quipped as we snuck out the backdoor, escaping into the yard. “He can take down vicious rabids and rampaging boars, but one old lady can make him flee in terror.”

“One scary old lady,” he corrected me, looking relieved to be out of the house. “You didn’t hear what she told me when I got up — you’re so cute I could put you in a pie. Tell me that’s not the creepiest thing you’ve ever heard.” His voice climbed a few octaves, turning shrill and breathy. “Today for dessert, we have apple pie, blueberry pie and Ezekiel pie.”
― Julie KagawaThe Immortal Rules

“Hunger flickered, always there, but I pushed it down. I was a vampire. Nothing would change that. But I didn't have to be a monster.”
― Julie KagawaThe Immortal Rules

“I wasn't thinking of his blood, rushing just below the skin. I wasn't thinking of his heartbeat or his touch or the pulse at his throat. Right now, all I was thinking of was Zeke.”

Black Dagger Brotherhood Series

So....What can I say about the Black Dagger BrotherHood Series? It is probably the BEST romance series I have ever read. Yes it has VAMPIRES. Yes it has EXTREME romance situations. Yes it goes BEYOND the limits....and YES this is what makes it so fascinating!! Each book is a story about one "brother" finding his eternal love, partner, soul-mate. Each book is filled with passion, humor, adventure, and yes...Pain...But this is just the beginning. I read each book and hurt..literally hurt when it is over...(my husband does too..LOL) I know that if you want to read a series and really "Feel" what the characters are going thru then this is your series. I really hope you will give it a chance and I promise you wont regret it....

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Welcome to the wonderful world of jealousy, he thought. For the price of admission, you get a splitting headache, a nearly irresistable urge to commit murder, and an inferiority complex. Yippee.”

“I was dead until you found me, though I breathed. I was sightless, though I could see. And then you came...and I was awakened.”

Review:Shadow and Bone (Leigh Bardugo)

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart...

WoW...What can I say? This book deserves 5+ stars!!! I am completely and utterly obsessed with this book and the characters. It has everything from a budding romance to an action packed adventure. I love the Fantasy aspect of the story as well. I absolutely loved the characters. Alina is just fascinating, spunky, and strong. The Darkling is creepy, handsome, and secretive. Mal is just MAL! LOVED LOVED LOVED him!!! The world that Leigh Bardugo has created is so fascinating. The "dark" side of the plot also keeps you hooked. I turned pages wellllll into the night with this story. I definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys young adult and suspense story's.

Some of my favorite quotes:
“I'm sorry it took me so long to see you, Alina. But I see you now.”

“I missed you every hour. And you know what the worst part was? It caught me completely by surprise. I'd catch myself just walking around to find you, not for any reason, just out of habit, because I'd seen something that I wanted to tell you about or because I wanted to hear your voice. And then I'd realize that you weren't there anymore, and every time, every single time, it was like having the wind knocked out of me. I've risked my life for you. I've walked half the length of Ravka for you, and I'd do it again and again and again just to be with you, just to starve with you and freeze with you and hear you complain about hard cheese every day. So don't tell me why we don't belong together," he said fiercely.”

Alot of reviewers will give you a breakdown of the book but I feel as though that takes away from the experience. I will give you my opinion of how I perceived the book and then you should read the book for yourself so that you enjoy every second, every secret, every lie......enjoy..

Currently Reading: (Obsidian)

So I am currently reading Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout and I can honestly say that this book has me hooked! I wasnt sure how I would feel about the whole "alien" experience but seeing as im completely obsessed with anything paranormal (vampires, werewolves, etc.) then it goes to say that I would probably enjoy this! and so far I cant put it down.....
