In the week since Lela returned to Rhode Island as Captain of the Guard with Malachi as her second in command, local news has been dominated by chilling sightings of human-like creatures running on all fours. Lela knows there’s only one explanation: the Mazikin have arrived in the land of the living.
Needing to maintain the appearance of a normal life for her foster mother, her probation officer, and her classmates, Lela returns to Warwick High along with Malachi. At night they secretly hunt for the Mazikin nest. To assist, two new Guards from very different parts of the Shadowlands are assigned to Lela’s unit, including the bad boy Jim, who repeatedly challenges Lela's authority. Lela struggles to keep all her Guards on the right side of the law, but their mistakes come at a terrible cost.
As one painful revelation follows another and the Mazikin start targeting those closest to her, Lela finds herself more vulnerable than she’s ever been, wanting a future more than she ever has. With an enemy determined to separate soul from body, one question remains: how much is she willing to sacrifice to protect those she loves?

When I'm not writing, I'm psychoanalyzing (really, I even get a paycheck for it). Sometimes I do both at the same time. The results are unpredictable.

Let me start with.....THE COVER OF THIS BOOK IS PHENOMENAL!!!!!!! It has depth, character, and emotion packed into one cover!! Even the colors fit perfectly! I was immediately in love! This has got to be one of my favorite covers of the year!!
OK, Sanctum was one of my favorite books of 2012. It was just amazing. So I knew that Fractured would be even better and I was so right. Fractured takes this story to a whole new level. Not to mention the romance that is Lela and Malachi...AH....It is just wonderful....I just love everything about their fight to be together...
"I didn't have time to say anything else before his lips met mine, setting me on fire, making me feel like the earth was falling out from under me."
Fractured begins where Sanctum left off. Malachi and Lela have returned to her home and she has been charged with being the Captain of a new team of individuals that will fight the Mazikin that have arrived in the land of the living.
Lela and Malachi have to "fit in" as normal teenagers so that no one will suspect their real duties so they begin school. They meet two new young boys who have been assigned to Lela as her guards. These two boys have totally different personalities and it takes Lela and Malachi a little while to warm up to them.
Lela thinks this will be a simple battle against Mazikan but it takes on so much more. It is an emotional, intense battle that she never expected. The Mazikan have more personal intentions than Lela realizes and the fight takes a different turn. Lela is now not only fighting the Mazikan to survive but she is fighting for everyone's survival.
The twists and turns in this book had me completely shocked. I found myself with my mouth wide open several times! HA! Sanctum was so amazing that I thought nothing could be better but Fractured is just....what word to use...INCREDIBLE!! The story is so much more personal because her family and friends are involved in more ways than she knew would be. Lela is faced with heart-breaking decisions, intense battle scenes, and emotional triumphs.
I was thrilled to see a posted review on Fractured...the much anticipated follow-up to Sanctum!! So happy you enjoyed the book and I'm excited to read it, too!! Love your blog :)
