Pub. Date: November 5, 2013

Immortal Dilemma is the hottest band in the Las Vegas vampire rock scene. They draw insatiable fans from around the globe, thanks to a supernatural attraction called Bloodlust. Tristan craved such an opportunity to fill his empty mortal life, and now he has eternity to earn his place along the legends of rock n roll debauchery.Callie always feared that Tristan’s excesses would get him into trouble, but she never thought they’d lead him to immortality. To reconnect with him, she must weave her way through a world not only she had no idea existed, but does not welcome her.Blade turned down a spot in Immortal Dilemma after learning what he must sacrifice for that lifestyle. He finds Callie a refreshing change from the girls in the vampire rock scene. When Callie drags Blade back into the world of Immortal Dilemma, his resistance drives her into the waiting arms of Tristan, who shows her the true meaning of Bloodlust. But the very things that Callie fights so hard to save are the very things that fight to destroy her.

Kristen shares a birthday with Steven Tyler and Diana Ross. She spends each day striving to be half as fabulous as they are. She’s worn many hats, none as flattering as her cowboy hat: banker, retail manager, fledgling web designer, world’s worst cocktail waitress, panty slinger, now makeup artist and author. She loves sunshine, live music, the middle of nowhere, and finding new things to put in her house. Because The Night is the first book from The Night Songs Collection. Kristen is represented by Pam van Hylckama Vlieg of Foreword Literary.

"What gave you the inspiration to write BECAUSE THE NIGHT?"

Several things inspired me to write the story that became BECAUSE THE NIGHT.  To calm my brain down enough to sleep, I used to tell myself stories based on my favorite books and movies as I laid in bed.  Tristan was an early character I created.  (Now unfortunately, I’ve had to create new bedtime story characters because if I think about Tristan and Callie I have to get up and write what I create.)
About ten years ago, I stayed with a friend after going to a concert.  I dreamed about a girl trying to make her way in Las Vegas.  I felt so strongly about it that I actually moved to Las Vegas to research this book.  Later, I saw the movie Showgirls, and realized that my friend had left the TV on that night because the dream was just like Showgirls.  Anyway, the book didn’t get finished in Vegas, and whatever was written then got lost in the hard drive of a computer that’s now taking up valuable real estate in a landfill, but the experience was invaluable to the later writing of the book.  Callie was born in that phase of the process.
Fast forward to 2011.  Julie Hutchings and I have written together our whole lives.  When we were teenagers, we used to entertain ourselves by passing a notebook back and forth and writing stories about rock stars.  So when she told me she was writing her first book, Running Home, I told her I had a couple of ideas in the wheel house.  We got together (and still do!  She’s actually sitting on my couch typing as I lay on the floor writing this.) a couple times a week and polished our wares until we each had something ready for the world.
Music has always been a big part of my life.  I’ve been going to concerts since I was 11. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’d seen over 1000 live acts at this stage of the game.  Musicians have always been magical for me.  Besides being ridiculously talented, there is something sexy and mysterious about them.  There’s a reason beyond the music they can fill arenas.  Women want to be with them, men want to be them. Rules don’t apply. They can do what they want, have what and who they want.
Much like vampires.
For me, it was the perfect marriage.  A lot of people have said that they think Las Vegas is an odd place for vampires, but as a former resident, I beg to differ. (A Vegas friend of mine remarked, “Isn’t everyone there a blood sucking leach?”  I don’t share her opinion, of course, but I thought it was funny.) Sin City loves the night life, welcomes debauchery and lawlessness, and radiates sensuality.

Much like vampires.
