Blog Tour, Interview, & Giveaway: Infinity (Andria Buchanan)

Title: INFINITY (The Chronicles of Nerisette #3)
Author: Andria Buchanan
Pub. Date: November 5, 2013
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Pages: 320

Although she’s still stuck in the magical world of Nerissette, Queen Allie is finally ready to build a relationship with the half hottie, half dragon next door, Winston. But all isn’t really fair in love and war. Unrest is quickly forming at the borders and soon Allie realizes that the Fate Maker wasn’t the only one who wanted her crown.

When her trusted aunt Bavasama sends her troops into Nerissette on a campaign of murder and mass destruction, Allie has a tough decision to make. She can’t take the chance of letting more people die or letting those she’s lost disappear from memory, but there is more at stake than even she knows. Still, Allie has to do something. And in the process she’ll discover what she’s truly made of when faced with a series of options…each more horrible than the last.

Patricia's a small town girl who was blessed with a large tree in the backyard that was a perfect spot for reading on summer days. Mixed with too much imagination it made her a bratty child but fated her to become a storyteller. After a stint of “thinking practically” in her twenties she earned degrees in Business and Economics and worked for a software firm in southwestern Germany but, her passion has always been a good book. She currently lives in Pittsburgh with her two wonderful kids and a husband that learned the gourmet art of frozen pizzas to give her more time to write. When she's not writing she can be found fencing and arguing with her dogs about plot points. Most days the Beagle wins but the Dalmatian is in close second. She's in a distant third. Patricia writes adult Paranormal under the name Patricia Eimer and writes Young Adult books under the name Andria Buchanan.

What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

My daughter Ainsley. I had written the first two books of my adult series (Luck of the Devil and Devil May Care) but because they were adult novels and she was 9 I wouldn’t let her read them. So she threw a bit of a fit and told me it wasn’t fair that I wrote things she couldn’t read and that I needed to write something for her. So that’s where the idea came from to write a YA novel.

Who is your favorite character in the book?

Mercedes. It sounds strange because most people associate with the heroes of a series but I remember being 16 and feeling like I didn’t live up to what other people expected, that somehow even with my friends, I was the person on the outside and every time I wrote Mercedes that was how she seemed to feel to me.

Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel definitely. The titles of all three books were changed after they were submitted.

What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

It’s a spoiler but the second to last scene in the book. SPOILER: Where Kuolema the dragon takes the Fate Maker’s soul and gives Allie the ability to get her mom back. I’d always intended from the very first draft for Allie’s mom to live but the addition of the dragon and all the extras were added into the story very late into the game.

Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

I’ve learned so much since I started writing the first Chronicles of Nerissette book three years ago. I don’t know where to even start listing it all but the most important thing I’ve learned is that stories have a life of their own and no matter what you plot they’re going to be told the way they want to be told whether you like it or not.

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

This is going to sound weird but I like the fact that on each cover focuses on Allie. This is her story and my cover artist focused on her. Not the romance or the magic or a dozen other things that could have been used to clutter the covers. In the end all three of these books are about a regular girl who wants to do the right thing and I think the cover’s capture that.

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2014?

Don’t Look Back – Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Retribution of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin

What was your favorite book in 2013?

Just One Year by Gayle Forman. I loved Just One Day so I was dying waiting for this book to come out.

  2. I love that your daughter was your inspiration for writing this book. I have an 11 year old and it is always a struggle to find her books that she can read that are challenging enough yet keep it clean enough. There really doesn't seem to be a good selection for this "advanced middle school" age - so thank you! Early congrats on your release and thanks for the opportunity at the giveaway.

  17. I like to learn how sometimes the plot takes an angle of its own that what is originally planned. For a story to have that kind of imagination is incredilbe!!
