CBB Promotions Blog Tour, Excerpt, & Giveaway: Glimmers (Barbara Brooke)

glimmers

Welcome to my tour stop for Glimmers by Barbara Brooke. This is a clean adult chick-lit/women's fiction with paranormal elements. This is a review tour that runs December 15-19. Check out the tour page for the full schedule.

About the Book:

Glimmers-2240
Glimmers by Barbara Brooke
A simple touch and suddenly, Paige is in the past — living someone else’s life, seeing the world through her eyes, and feeling her deepest emotions.
Paige used to think memories existed only in one’s mind. But now, she knows better. She can’t explain how or why, but she has “glimmers”: special moments that have remained behind — clinging to a letter, a ring, even a worn-out pair of boots.
When Paige returns from each glimmer, a small part of her has changed. Who is this gourmet cook, fashion designer, feisty lover? And how is she supposed to explain this to her family without them thinking she has completely lost her mind?
Paige believes her new talent is a gift, until she’s transported into her sister’s memory and catches a glimmer of her secret life.
Take this humorous and romantic journey as Paige learns about true love through the lives of three extraordinary women.

She is actively creating new worlds and interesting characters for the next book in one of her series. Shhhh, can you keep a secret? Not only does she write spellbinding, heart-pounding women’s fiction, she also writes books for the young-at-heart, adventurous sort who yearn to dive into a good young adult fantasy story. These particular books are written under the name H.B. Bolton, but that is another story altogether.

Lydia’s not a slow driver on the best of days, but she’s even more of a speed demon when a good time’s happening without her. I try not to notice the speedometer inch higher and higher as I crawl over to the backseat. Sometimes I’m surprised by how easy it is to change my clothes in Lydia’s car. I suppose years of practice have made all the difference. My favorite floral pink sundress slips easily over my head, my jean jacket adds a little essence of cool, and my tan boots finish my look with style. I return to the passenger seat and adjust the rearview mirror, which clearly displays my naked lips.
“When do you plan on telling me where we’re heading?” I ask while reapplying lipstick.
“Some of the gang’s gonna be at Max’s Bar. I figured we’d start there.” She effortlessly guides her boatlike car to the side of the road. “Are you ready to take the wheel? I need to get out of this uniform and make myself over. I’m anxious to see Bradley … just thinking about him makes my toes curl.”
“Honey, I hate to break it to ya, but your toes are always curling for one guy or another. I, on the other hand, don’t have much time for romance.”
“You haven’t met the right guy, that’s all.”
“Even still, my life’s full enough. I have other ideas for my future — one that doesn’t include any of the boys I know, thank you very much.”
“Whatever you say.” Lydia leaps over to the passenger seat with a tremendous plop and grins fiendishly. “Ready to tear it up?”
She has successfully changed into a black-and-white striped shirt and a pair of high red pumps. I’m not surprised to see her stonewashed jeans. They’re her favorite; she has often told me how proud she is of the Guess logo on the back. Lydia’s naturally pretty features still show through all of the eye shadow and hot-pink lipstick. And her frosted-blond hair stands so high above her head that I’m afraid it’ll get stuck against the car’s sagging headliner.
Red neon letters, which spell out “Max’s Bar and Grill,” hang inside a fogged-up window. Lydia’s car coasts into a parking spot, and we rush toward the open door.
We’ve barely stepped one foot inside the bar when Lydia grabs my hand. “Hurry up. Bradley’s back there playing darts.”
“I’ll catch up with you in a minute. I’m gonna have the jukebox play our favorite song,” I say with a smile.
“Well, wish me luck.” With that, Lydia flitters toward her latest crush.
Max’s Bar is busier than usual, and there’s hardly an unfamiliar face in here. Funny, you’d never know that most of these muscle-clad guys’ workouts basically consist of tipping cows and baling hay. An outsider might think they’ve gone to cowboy heaven, but not me. I suppose once you’ve known someone your entire life, the illusion wears off. Don’t get me wrong — they’re a great group of guys, like big teddy bears.
A smile dangles from my lips as I make my way through the crowd. After many hugs, a couple of pats on the shoulder, and a few pleasantries, I’ve finally reached my destination. Against the back wall, right next to the pool table, sits my jukebox. Coins fall into the music machine, and my favorite record settles into place. I close my eyes and hum, allowing Tom Petty’s lyrics to flow through me: “American Girl.”
