Kismet Book Tours Blog Tour, Interview, & Giveaway: The Divinicus Next Chronicles (A&E Kirk)

For seventeen-year-old Aurora Lahey, survival is a lifestyle.

DEMONIC DESTINY
Aurora has the crappiest superpower on the planet. And it's just unleashed a hit squad from hell. Demons are on the hunt, salivating to carve her carcass into confetti.

CHARISMATIC KILLERS
The Hex Boys--mysterious, hunky, and notorious for their trails of destruction--have the answers Aurora needs to survive. But their overload of deadly secrets and suspicious motives makes trusting them a potentially fatal move.

LETHAL ALLIES
The battle to save her family, herself, and stop demonic domination may cost Aurora everything worth living for, and force her to reveal her own dark secrets. But no worries. She needs the Hex Boys to pull this off, and, chances are, teaming up with these guys will get her killed anyway.

About Drop Dead Demons:

This mother-daughter duo were in and out of inter-dimensional paranormal prisons until they finally quit making up cover stories for secret societies and started writing novels. The Supernatural Continuum Warlords of the Supernatural Continuum Warlordian High Command had pity upon them, and instead of having them slaughtered by the slow, tortuous flesh eating underwater, earthworm squid, they transported them into a habitationally friendly dimension called OOARCHTOHUTHLAMADILFRUMP, also known as 21st Century Earth.
Due to a demon infestation in their sleepy mountain California town, and a lack of sexy Hex Boys to stop them, Alyssa and Eileen were forced to relocate to Los Angeles. The Amazon best seller, DEMONS AT DEADNIGHT, is book one in the DIVINICUS NEX CHRONICLES series, and the first of their exclusive re-creations of supernatural society secrets. You can uncover more paranormal, inter-dimensional classified information at AEKIRK.com andFacebook.com/AandEKirk.com.
Citizens of Earth, you are welcome.

About A&E Kirk:

1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

Alyssa: Not to sound too pathetic, but boredom and a lack of friends inspired Divinicus Nex Chronicles. Shocking as it seems, too-tall, gangly, geeky, pimple-faced, vampire-loving-before-it-was-cool me wasn't the most popular kid around. I spent a lot of time with my nose buried in books until I ran out of them (the library was on the other side of the mountains). So one day when I was hiking with my dogs, I got to thinking how cool it would be if a hot guy moved in to the house next door and our little town got invaded and me and said hot guy saved the town and my imagination kept going from there. I started writing the ideas down, came up with Aurora, one hot guy turned into six hot guys and eventually I started writing with Mom/Eileen.

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?

Eileen: I can't pick a favorite Hex Boy, I love them all! Even cranky Matthias. And Aurora, of course. So I'll pick Aurora's Aunt M from Book 2 DROP DEAD DEMONS. She is a screech! Love writing her, love reading her, love getting into her head. It is a crazy, sometimes scary, and fun place to be. All her warnings about sex. She is just so out there, but then a few things happen and you think, okay what is going on with her??? I like that as a reader, she makes you laugh, and you're ready to write her off as a kook, and then you wonder, hmmm???? She leaves you with a lot of questions.

Alyssa: Aurora's my favorite. She's so spunky. No matter how scared she is or how much she's messed up (with totally logic reasoning that led her to the misstep), she always marches on and tries her best. I try to channel her everyday. And man if I could have some of her snarky comebacks! I only think of those two hours after the fact.

3. Which came first, the title or the novel?

Novel came first. Its working title was Demonic Attractions forever. Our agent at the time said it was too dark. So we went with Demons at Deadnight because that's just so much lighter and happy sounding. Right?

4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

Eileen: I'm most proud of our "romantic" scenes because I think we capture the hot and steamy while still maintaining a level that even younger readers are comfortable with. As a mom, I like to think we offer something that other parents would be okay with their kids reading.

Alyssa: I’m most proud of a scene at the end of Demons at Deadnight between Aurora and Ayden in a utility closet. It was the first scene I'd written that actually came across sexy. Funny and action packed are more my thing (just blow it up!), so when I finally got a sexy number nailed down I was stoked!

5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

It's funny, with the first book, our editor said we made some common first time author mistakes in Demons At Deadnight, and then he helped us fix them. When we sent him Drop Dead Demons, he said, Congrats! You didn't make the same mistakes, but you made new ones! Yeah, that was fun to hear. As far as things in general we've learned...Men/boys talk using much a much shorter word count - except for Jayden, but he isn't a normal guy. Plus he uses long, obsure words no one has ever heard before. SHOW don't tell. When we get an idea for a scene, we tend to run it like a movie in our head to make sure it is a good visual, then try to "show" the reader what we see. And if we get stuck or bored, we think, hey, let's blow something up. We literally had that conversation regarding a scene in Demons At Deadnight. We were in the car, driving on the freeway and we're saying things like, "This isn't exciting enough. How could we make it better." And then we said, "Hey, let's blow it up!" Then we had to figure out the how, why, and the aftermath of it all, but it worked out great!

6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?

For Demons at Deadnight, the dress on fire. For Drop Dead Demons the insight you get into the Waiting World. And we love the fact that each cover has something to do with a particular scene or at least something you know happened in the book.

7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2015?

Peace Talks by Jim Butcher (Butcher is a writing god!)

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury

Divinicus Nex 3! We are dying to get out Book 3. So we write and write and write. Getting it out to the fans is our #1 priority!

8. What was your favorite book in 2014?

Eileen: Skin Game by Jim Butcher. I love the Dresden Files. Also, my son Jake loves them. When we got the hardcover of Skin Game, we read it at the same time. He usually read ahead of me, then would give me the book to catch up saying things like, "oh, you are going to be so surprised!" Or irritated or scared, etc. Then I'd catch up and we'd talk about what happened. So fun!

Alyssa: Girl on a Wire by Gwenda Bond. It was a fun blend of mystery and magic.

9. What’s up next for you?

Writing Divinicus Nex 3. Then 4, and 5. After that we've been toying with the idea of Hex Boy spin offs, some short stories, and other paranormal novels we've had in the works but put aside to get the Divinicus Nex Chronicles done. So little time, so much to write!

10. Is there anything that you would like to add?

Our fans are incredible! We love them so much. The emails, the tweets, the reviews, the goodread chats, it's all so amazing to hear from them all over the world.

Thanks so much for having us today!

  2. Really great interview - thanks for sharing!
I would go with Air.. I've always wanted to fly so if I could control the Air it would be a close second to actually being able to fly :)
