5 Star ARC Review: The Sin Eater's Daughter (Melinda Salisbury)

The Sin Eater’s Daughter (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #1)Hardback, 336 pages
Expected publication: February 24th 2015 by Scholastic Press

Seventeen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. But although she’s engaged to the prince, Twylla isn’t exactly a member of the court.
She’s the executioner.
As the Goddess embodied, Twylla instantly kills anyone she touches. Each month she’s taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love a girl with murder in her veins. Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to Twylla’s fatal touch, avoids her company.
But then a new guard arrives, a boy whose easy smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he’s able to look past Twylla’s executioner robes and see the girl, not the Goddess. Yet Twylla’s been promised to the prince, and knows what happens to people who cross the queen.
However, a treasonous secret is the least of Twylla’s problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies, a plan that requires a stomach-churning, unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favor of a doomed love?

Melinda Salisbury
Melinda Salisbury lives by the sea, somewhere in the south of England. As a child she genuinely thought Roald Dahl’s Matilda was her biography, in part helped by her grandfather often mistakenly calling her Matilda, and the local library having a pretty cavalier attitude to the books she borrowed. Sadly she never manifested telekinetic powers. She likes to travel, and have adventures. She also likes medieval castles, non-medieval aquariums, Richard III, and all things Scandinavian The Sin Eater's Daughter is her first novel. She can be found on Twitter at @AHintofMystery, though be warned, she tweets often.

I am the perfect weapon.
I kill with a single touch.

The first thing that caught my eye about this book was the cover. What an breathtakingly gorgeous cover...The bright and vibrant colors just grab the readers attention...and the name...The Sin Eater's Daughter..What an phenomenal name!!!! I literally could not wait to get my hands on this book! From the first chapter to the last chapter I literally could not put this book down.

The main character, Twylla, is a seventeen year old girl who has been brought to live at the castle and is engaged to marry the prince of the kingdom, Prince Merek.... yet Twylla's main duty in life is to be the "executioner" for the King and Queen also known as Daunen Embodied. Twylla's touch is lethal to everyone but the King and Queen. Her job is to execute the people whom the King and Queen have chosen to die.

"So Daunen exists as the balance between both God and Goddess: she must be death on behalf of her mother, as she is life on behalf of her father. Each moon, Daunen Embodied must prove herself chosen by taking Morningsbane and living despite it. And she must keep the poison in her skin so that her touch would mean death to traitors, as her mother's touch is death."

Twylla is kept in a section of the castle that is separate from everyone else and the only people she comes into contact with are the guards who protect her and the Queen. Tywlla begins to befriend one of her guards name Lief. Lief is handsome and strong-willed and he and Tywlla begin to realize they have feelings for one another.

The Sin Eater's Daughter has an emotional love triangle that forces Tywlla to make a choice between her destiny or her happiness.....and the world-building is just breath-taking. There is so much folk lore and fantasy that just brings so much depth and intensity to the story. I love all the royalty, fantasy, and traditions that are described within the story.

"The realization stuns me and my ears ring, blood rushing to my head and my skin as I realize what I have said. And how true it is. Suddenly it is the truest, surest thing in the world. I am in love. That's what's been wrong with me. I have been falling in love. For someone who sings of love, I didn't recognize it at all."

There is so much mystery and lies throughout this story and at points it would just shock me when I read the truth about what was happening within the story. The Sin Eater's Daughter is full of emotion and a complex story line that will keep the reader flipping pages till the very last chapter....and now I absolutely cant wait to read the sequel to see where this story will go!!!! What in the world is going to happen next....
